Idk my personal headcannon for debaser billy is that he kinda hates the words “I love you”. Because the person he heard that from the most was his mom, and she just abandoned him. So now he kinda sees it as a lie, especially when Stu says it for the first time. So, when Stu tells Billy he loves him, it isn’t a massive confession. It isn’t Stu laying down his heart openly. For Billy, he sees it as an almost confirmation that Stu will leave him too.

Yeah this is pretty spot on, this is exactly what’s happening in chapter 9. He doesn’t trust those words. I don’t even think he thinks Stu is lying exactly; he just doesn’t think he knows any better. Like “you might think that’s true but you’ll turn eventually”. But Stu keeps not leaving, and some part of Billy is also scared that he does mean it, and he especially hates the part of him that wants it to be true. Deep down his man wants to be wanted and he’s also terrified of what that would mean and how it would change him.

And saying that himself? Like he doesn’t even think he’s capable of it for a long time, and even once he does he things it might as well be poisonous. He thinks that love makes people do stupid shit and makes them vulnerable, and he’s be better off without it.

I think I’m shy-ish? Like, unless I’m in character I don’t like knowing there’s attention on me, but if there is and I don’t know about it I’m fine? Does that make sense? I think it’s more of a self confidence thing than like, a shy/outgoing thing.
