Charlie Bilodeau 8/6/93 Unaspected Sun

Charlie Bilodeau is a Canadian pair skater who on April 16 announced his retirement by writing an essay for the CBC about how he came to a difficult realization that he no longer could invest his all in skating and that it drained rather than motivated him. He notified his partner Lubov Ilyushechkina and coaches only the night before it was to be published. He left his previous partner Julianne Seguin in a similarly abrupt way. Charlie has an unaspected Sun in his chart in Leo.

This means that no other planets make a major aspect (or connection) to his Sun, which represents his ego, will, and life force. The energies of the Sun aren’t modified by other influences so can be very intense and undiluted, but also not integrated into who you are as a whole. So people with this tend to have extreme doubts about their purpose in life, and the insecurity can push them to focus on themselves to the exclusion of others. Until they figure this out, they may seem self-absorbed while at the same time being very unsure who they are. The upside of this raw ego and conscious will power is that once it’s more maturely worked out and directed, it can give them an unstoppable sense of purpose and become a strength.

Someone with an unaspected planet will be strongly drawn to people who connect to it from their charts. Connections like this give Charlie’s unaspected Sun an outlet and allow him to see himself more clearly. Julianne Seguin and Lubov Ilyushechkina have nearly the same birthday (Nov. 7 and Nov. 5) and have Suns that square his, making the same major aspect and from the same sign, Scorpio, to his Leo Sun. In addition, Lubov’s Mars also squares his Sun closely, and Julianne’s Venus sextiles his Sun. So they both provided a way for him to use his Sun energy while allowing him an avenue to understanding himself in a way that he has trouble doing alone. 

The way he left both partnerships seems to express his unaspected Sun. In his retirement essay (x), he wrote of Julianne: “I hope she will understand that the problem was not her. Our breakup was probably a big blow for her. Julianne may have even felt it was because she was not up to par, but that is not true. I had to change the environment and explore something else to see where my lack of motivation came from. Was this the context of my training? Or was it deeper? Today I know it.” He is saying this in April 2020 to a partner he broke up with in 2018, so seems to imply that this was unsaid at the time, that he didn’t fully realize until now why he was unhappy and wanted to leave, and had not said this to her in person.
