Defiance S01E01 Pilot Pt. 1

Hey, it's bio man! Or at least that's my way of using his "nickname" that would translate closer to "A marital-man-partner to beating-objects" or well, a nature guy. He's one of the main characters of the story, directly involved with the expedition to Pimple Island.

At the moment, he lives among 'monk-priests' of a Ciwan monastery but isn't one himself. He seeks shelter there in exchange for service to the pack. Most people in his position only wash away their family name, then gain a new monk name, and eventually also take on the new gender and title among the workers of the gods. Bio man has been living in the monastery for years without trying to get any of that and is considered something of a freak for his way of isolating himself from the social groups that slomen so strongly gravitate to. Some of the slomen there even think he's only there to gain access to the archived knowledge, or is even some sort of spy.

But bio man is just a person who wants to be alone, untouched, unsensed - an easily overwhelmed guy. Humanoid in attitude but still emotionally lacking due to, well, not being a human that can just do his own stuff forever.

He has his own plans and motivations, but for now, his actions mostly include collecting plants, rocks, and carcasses to bring back to the house to stare at (as some would put it). And thanks to the pity of the higher priests, this only affects his nickname. (Well, it also got him the mark of knowledge, which he has to wear in public as one of his services to the house. It makes outsiders aware they can ask him questions, mostly nature-oriented.)

I already posted him outside Tumblr, hoping I would be done with his other outfits when I post him here, but I think I will just post them in a reblog later with more context for them and the setting.

He can't offer more. They are not the easiest to get to as a non-familiar man. Most often made of animal meggs that grow inside tree hollows. They are very fatty and crust up beautifully after baking. Usually stuffed with mashed insides of the megg and other chosen ingredients like bone marrow or liver. Spices are mixed in, but one can't forget to sew in some bitter weed for the extra kick.

I have a question about Bio man, How does he feel about Neal and his status as a professor? This question has been in my mind for weeks now because I would assume that he gets a bit jealous at times? maybe? I think that because Bio man wants to be this epic science guy but he's just seen as "the guy who picks at carcasses", while Neal is PROFESSOR NEAL and actually teaches HIGH CLASS FAMILY PEOPLES and all. So idk if I were Bio man I would be real jealous at times but idk thats why I'm asking, does he or do I look silly rn

Bio man is, in ways, definitely jealous. To him, the world is unfair, difficult to navigate, and he thinks he has what it takes to be held higher. But he doesn't. Not because he's incompetent, but because he isn't lucky.

Neal swims in luck. And his presence is useful. He's a spectacle in ability and other aspects. He's a great people pleaser, always keeping unwanted emotions out of work and gatherings. Knowing all the rules and following them strictly.

Not all people in Neal's position are as socially capable, ready for every signal, but they adapt. They make themselves useful, sing the praises, and don't step into what they can't manage. Not something bio man is capable of.

And it's not one-sided. If Neal weren't so lucky, he would not be there. But now he's stuck in a position that is far from what he would dream of as a child. But he's good at the one thing; what choice does he have? Leave and become a humble working group man in a regular sloman household, doing regular sloman work and eating sloman food?

I should actually go more into Ciwan culture, so I don't always sound so vague.
