I’ll save my camp review for another post, but in short, it was really fun and I feel totally energized. I did take today off of running after running 3 straight days last week, but the good vibes are evident.
MON: AM: 1.5 mile run (12:37p) cut short due to nightmare chafing; PM: strength class, 1 hour
WED: Global Running Day run, 2.3 miles (11:54p) Not kosher to admit this but after missing multiple events that I had wanted to attend for Global Running Day, it was mostly guilt about the arbitrary holiday that got me out there.
THURS: BIRDCAMP! Outdoor yoga, 45 minutes after a long travel day.
FRI: BIRDCAMP! Easy run (3 miles/ 11:35p), 3 miles; strength and drills class, 48 minutes.
SAT: BIRDCAMP! Long run, 8 miles (12:20p) -- a local 7-mile loop plus 1 more at camp. This was a real adventure. First, I ended up dropping the group I had started out with because they were taking more frequent and longer walk breaks than I wanted to (for my own mental strength I find I have to limit those things). Earlier in the run they had taken breaks but always caught up to me later, so I figured that would happen. I don’t drop I get dropped so that was weird. Then about 5.5 miles in, the route led to a trail with some technical aspects (rocks, tree roots, teeny stream crossings) so my pace fell off a cliff while I dealt with that. Yet when I finished I felt like I had just won a gold medal. In the afternoon I swam for ~20 minutes in the ice cold lake.
SUN: BIRDCAMP! Recovery run, 4 miles (12:16p average) This was the only run of camp I did alone and with music, and it was definitely a different experience (but both good). I did power-hike some of the hills for recovery’s sake.
This week: Runstreet comes to Chicago and I will be there!
