I wish you would ride a fic where birdflash goes on a ferris wheel because Wally being afraid of heights is still my kryptonite.
I would be glad to write some ferris wheel Birdflash some day! :D But for now, maybe a sneak peek at my circus!au where Dick is trying to teach Wally how to use the trapeze???
OKAY SO quick description of circus!au: When Wally is seven, he runs away from home and ends up at Pop Haly’s trailer. The Graysons (and essentially the whole troupe) take him under their wing and he stays with them until the Graysons are murdered and Dick goes to live with Bruce. This segment takes place at some point before the Graysons’ death, so Dick is 7, and Wally’s about 9 or 10.
“Oh, come on. You’ll do fine!”
“I really don’t know how I feel about this.”
Dick rolled his eyes, exasperated, and grinned. “Wally, you’ll be fine. If you do fall, which you won’t, there’s a net to catch you. We’re not even that far off the ground.”
“Fifteen feet in the air is pretty high.” Wally retorted defensively, shifting his weight from one to the other nervously while watching the ground below. Dick laughed amused.
The redhead gulped and grabbed the bar. He glanced up to observe Dick on the other platform ten feet away from him. The day-away-from-eight year old gave him a reassuring smile. Wally took a deep breath, clenched his eyes shut, and jumped.
As he swung through the air straight towards the other platform, he cracked his eyes open to observe his flight path. Dick jumped into the air with a cheer, fist held above his head. “See?” he called. “I told you you could do it!”
Wally released an excited grin, but it fell suddenly as he started swinging backwards. He kicked his feet, trying to change his direction, but to no avail. He yelped in fear as he continued to swing in the opposite direction.
“This isn’t funny!” Wally called back, eyes staring wide at the ground as he swung forwards again.
“You have to let go!” Dick shouted with a smile as Wally came towards him again, tilting sideways from his kicking. “When you get to the platform, let go!”
Wally did as he was told, free falling towards the platform. He let out a strangled cry as he fell, almost missing the platform entirely. He reached out and grunted as he grabbed the edge, Dick reaching over to help him up as he laughed. Wally scowled as he was pulled up, his face almost as red as his hair. Once he was sure he was safe, he pouted, crossing his arms and hunching his shoulders up to his ears. Dick snorted.
“Don’t laugh. Don’t you dare.”
Both of Dick’s small hands flew to his face to try and smother his laughter, but within seconds he was clutching his stomach and rolling around.
“Duuuude, it’s not funny,” Wally whined, shoving the younger boy in the shoulder.
“Yes it is,” Dick giggled, shoving him back playfully.
Wally’s eyes narrowed. “I’m gonna get you for this.”
Dick’s eyes took on a playful gleam and he grinned. “You’ll have to catch me first.”
“You know I’m faster than you,” he smirked haughtily. “I’d catch you before you could make it down that ladder.”
As soon as the words had left his mouth, Dick rolled off the edge of the platform. Wally gasped in horror and lunged forwards to peer over the edge. He immediately slumped against the platform with a sigh of relief once he caught sight of Dick scrambling off the net far below.
“Come and get me then!” Dick called upwards to the redhead, laughing as Wally’s face soured.
“Dii-iiiick,” Wally whined, rolling over onto his back, his arms splaying out haphazardly. “You suck!” he shouted after the retreating ebony. A fading cackle was his only response.
