I’ve found this link, this lady Nikki Helms wants to open a birthing centre in SAN Diego. To help Black women to have Black midwives - she’s 1 of 4 there.

“. I want to help support the families that would otherwise not be able to afford to have an out of hospital birth. I want to offer reproductive health care to those who may not have insurance or want to care for themselves outside of the hospital system. I want to offer a learning space for student midwives and student nurses. I want to offer support to our teenagers by providing sex-positive, evidence based education about their bodies and how to care for them and each other. I want to help build families by offering home-based IUI services. I want to educate folks about family building and open up the world of Midwifery to everyone. The funds raised will be used to secure a space in central San Diego, hopefully Clairemont, purchase birth tubs, equipment and to build out and furnish our space.”

This is so important and, although, it’s not the usual donation links going around. I do think when you read this ladies dreams and wants... it’s incredibly powerful and good. Please donate if you can, if not share this with people who can? She’s almost to her goal.

All is pretty much ok in the world of Bumpette.

We had a Midwife appointment yesterday and she still seems perfectly healthy and growing as expected. She is head down, not yet engaged (luckily!) however she is back to back; the midwife has suggested we buy a birthing ball and use that plus a couple of other exercises to encourage her to move round.

I’ve googled what this means for us and it just sounds like a longer and more painful labour - has anyone had this themselves?

It may also mean that I might not be able to give birth at the centre I so desperately want to go to rather than a normal labour ward. The Birthing Centre is pretty much a home from home; nicely painted walls, sofas, cushions, giant bean bags, birthing pool, nice music etc in every room - it seems so much more pleasant than a noisy, clinical hospital room. They will only allow low risk, non complicated pregnancies to go (if things take a turn down hill the normal ward is down a short corridor in the same building); I really hope Bumpette being btb wont be an issue.
