Frostiron + 46
They both studied each other with slightly narrowed eyes across the too-intimate square of their dinner table, where a tapered, white candle was burning merrily, clueless about the way it was currently adding to the awkward tension.
”So”, Tony finally started, drawing out the syllable, filling it with doubts, ”why did your brother think we would hit it off again?”
”Honestly, I should have known better than to listen to one of his bright ideas”, Loki muttered, picking up his glass of wine and taking a long swallow. At least both the food and drink had been excellent, and if he got a bit drunk it could hardly hurt at this point.
”I mean don’t get me wrong.” Mirroring him, Tony scooped up his tumbler of scotch and took a sip. When he lowered the drink from his lips, he pointed at Loki with the index finger of the hand holding it. ”The look you have going on here? Like you came right off the Tony Stark’s Type assembly line. And I didn’t really get a good look before we set down, but I’m betting you have a great ass.”
”True”, Loki smirked. He wasn’t drunk enough to admit it, but Tony was pretty close to his own preferred type in men. The chocolate curls and matching eyes and the play of sinewy muscle in his forearms.
”You didn’t actually listen to a word I was saying before, though, did you?”
”Oh, no, I listened! For the first twenty minutes. But when you were still going on about the virtues of your car at that point, I admit I might have mentally checked out.”
”Like when you spent the fifteen minute drive over here with your nose buried in a book?” Tony snorted. “And besides, it’s supposed to be a date. We’re supposed to share our interests and crap like that, right?” He looked slightly but genuinely confused at that last part, as if he was honestly trying to say the right thing.
”Yes, I see you have a firm grasp on romance…”
”Shut up, I am a delight!” Scowling, Tony knocked back the last of his drink and put the tumbler down, just a hint too forcefully.
They glared at each other across the expanse of empty glasses and plates separating them.
Loki snapped first. ”If I suck you off in the car, is that enough to end this farce and make sure I never have to see you again?”
For a few more moments, they continued staring each other down over the remains of dinner.
Then Tony raised a hand, abruptly halting a passing server. ”Check, please.”
Thor was Loki’s best man at the wedding, and he answered everyone who asked him that although he hadn’t actually been there, he was sure it had been love at first sight. They were such a perfect match, after all.
