Reality

Rejection takes all kinds of forms. And all of them suck.

Whether it’s getting picked last when they were picking teams in grade school. Or not getting the job. Or the death of a relationship. Or someone rejecting the possibility of even having a relationship with you.

Those are the easy ones to spot.

Rejection also takes the form of constant criticism. Second-guessing. Undermining. Almost but not quite comments. Letting you know that whatever you did, it’s not good enough.

Rejection sucks. And not just in the moment.

Have you ever noticed how rejection always echoes the loudest? It’s true for every other negative thing as well. There’s something about us that hangs onto that stuff. That repeats it.

Like a negative echo chamber. A looping greatest hits collection. Of moments we didn’t want to live through the first time.

Almost like we’re trying to sell ourselves. On the worst product in the world.

With no thought to whether it has any grounding in reality.

Which is why it is so critical for you and me to not let that negative loop have its way. To intentionally ground ourselves in reality.

The only way to do that? Prayer.

As Bishop Barron puts it, “Prayer is stopping and taking a very contemplative look at The Real. God is the Realest Thing.”

What does that have to do with our penchant for hanging on to the negative?

Our penchant for hanging on to the negative is a road to nowhere. It’s just a self-reinforcing opinion. One that’s groundless. Because it ignores The Real.

The Realest Thing?

     Knows you. Because He made you. You are fearfully and wonderfully made.

The Realest Thing?

     Knows everything about you. Because He formed your inmost being.

The Realest Thing?

  Knows at your worst. And still loves you.

There’s your grounding in reality. From the very source of all that is Real.

Catholic tumblr needs to stop shitting on Bishop Barron. He’s not a heretic, people like Taylor Marshall like to take his statements out of context and his radtrad hive mind just go along with it. He’s one of the greatest evangelists of the modern church and he has far more fruitful and insightful takes on the faith than he has poor ones. Y’all need to chill
