TOKYO | Japan reporter freed from captivity in Syria returns home

TOKYO— A Japanese journalist returned to Tokyo on Thursday after being freed from more than three years of captivity in Syria.

Jumpei Yasuda was released on Tuesday and taken to neighboring Turkey.

Yasuda, wearing a black T-shirt, was escorted from his plane at Tokyo’s airport by Japanese officials and ushered into a black van.

TOKYO  — A Japanese journalist freed from captivity in Syria said he is happy to be going home after living in “hell” for more than three years, but is worried about how he will catch up with a changed world.

Nervous for my anesthesiologist appointment tomorrow (wisdom teeth removal surgery prep) and how I'll take it and then also worried about how I'm going to feel after the surgery itself I'm already beyond hyperaware of my body and internal structure (like, BEYOND hyperaware) and I know I'm going to feel like my jaw is empty and I know for a fact that it's going to be weird to not have the slight nudge of the roots of the wisdom teeth scrape against my nerves at certain angles- or feel the gums wrap around them (that's gonna be so fucking weird aah) Like, when I got my ear washed out to remove an earwax build up I could practically taste the texture of my ear canal and the unnatural wetness that clung to the inner tissue in my head afterwards so having something bigger removed is going to throw me way the heck off my game
