In Bite-Sized, I’ve always liked the quote: “When they joined the gathering, Nik was perhaps over-eager to draw Elena's attention back to himself, and Elena seemed all too happy to bestow her radiant regard upon him.” It works so well because we all know Klaus is an attention whore. That being said, if they were currently in a relationship, do you have an head canons on what Klaus does in the day to day to secure Elena’s attention for himself. She just has so many friends and obligations lol!

Huh interesting question. 

I guess one of the reasons I ship this is actually that Klaus has Elena’s attention-- as she does his. They both have a lot of people/things vying for their attention, but they can’t help but be locked in on the other, for obvious fate/plot/horrible connectedness reasons. 

But say they were in a relationship and Klaus wanted to keep Elena engaged? I think they would have a connection over art-- not just visual art, but also the art of writing and literature. That’s a huge connection point for the two of them-- they have very similar spirits in that regard. 

And also, I think the fact that Klaus loves to scheme and create these dramas keeps Elena more engaged than she would ever admit to-- Elena hungers for that level of excitement, and Klaus is one of the only ones able to provide that particular thrill for her.
