"Frightened yet, brother?" Seryn teased. In truth, she was horrified, but she would never show Carver that.

"Of course not, sister." He's too much like her, she decided. But today, that was a good thing. Confidence, in the face of battle.

Yet, she felt herself waiver. Something wasn't right. So she threw her arm around his shoulder, squeezed him tight and kissed his cheek.

Death would take everyone someday, but not today.

"I'm just making sure!" She did her best not to laugh, but couldn't help the grin at seeing her brother's blush reaching his ears. "You never know!"
