The Night the Lights Went Out in Ludlow Vineyards
Months and months of research, hard work, tears and countless bags of gummy worms had led to this moment. At long last, Zixa had given her the green light on this project to provide a more efficient way to channel electricity to the estate. And she was beyond excited to see it finally come to life! A chance to show that she was the true brains behind the operations. She could see it now… Lady Ludlow praising her for a job well done and seeing those ninnies Zixa and Sprankles green with envy when she, Bixloly Bizzspark became the boss’s favorite!
The river behind the vineyards had proven to be the perfect location for her invention. The current was strong enough that it would keep the turbines spinning and she had calibrated it juuuuuuuuuust right…. She was pretty sure she did, at least.
Bixloly bounced on the spot, her blue-dye stained hands clasped together at chest height, hardly able to contain the excitement coursing through her small body. “Now! Time to get this show on the road!” The blue haired gnome wandered over to the wooden beam that had been effectively blocking the river’s flow which had allowed her to construct her generator without any impediment. She fell back onto her backside as she gave the beam one final tug and landed with a loud, “OOF!”
“Ah bolts!” she rubbed gingerly at her sore rear and readjusted her glasses, but she quickly forgot her fall as a metallic whirring sounded through the air as water pushed through the turbines. Sure enough, an electric hum was heard running through the copper cables that ran from the generator and up to the estate.
“YESSSS! I did it!” She squealed, her fists held over her head as she jumped up and down in victory. “That’ll show ‘em! That’ll show ‘em all!” She hummed a happy little tune as she pulled out a blue and green gummy worm from her pouch and dug her teeth into it. Her lips smacked loudly as she continued to talk to herself. “I have pioneered the future of Ludlow Vineyards! Lady Ludlow will be so pleased and impressed, I’m sure she’ll--” She stopped mid sentence.
Crackling electricity thrummed through the cables, growing louder and louder. “Uh oh….” Before she could lunge forward and throw the safety switch, loud popping noises were heard from the manor as light bulbs burst, sending the entire building into darkness. “OH FISHSTICKS!!”
