TROY'S REDEMPTION AU PT. 1
Troy Calypso is not by any means a good person. There would be no redemption for him unless it was under a very specific set of circumstances. So, what would happen if he were thrust in the Crimson Raiders' midst? I imagine he'd be off to a very rocky start. Since I was intensely salty dissatified with BL3's game plot, I wanted to throw out some AU ideas. I've been bouncing rapid ideas in my head and thought it was a fun way to pass the time. Hopefully, it'll be in character for Troy. My writing's shit halp lol
The only reason why Troy is alive and with the Raiders is because he's useful.
He's struck a up plea-bargain with ATLAS, the company who stuck him in detainment in exchange for his freedom. It was that, rot in a cell deep underground their HQ, or be an unwilling lab rat to the Science Department. He'd rather take his chances with a bunch of idiots, thanks.
He has a vast wealth of knowledge concerning Eridian Vaults, and information pertaining to important Maliwan & COV figureheads, and more importantly, the means to take them out.
He's a tool, and an important one, kept under lock and key.
The Raiders are smart enough to recognize this, but still treat him with the thinnest veneer of civility.
This doesn't stop them from feeling the intense hatred for a monster who was directly responsible for the disapperance and death of their Commander, as well as the deaths of other comrades.
For this reason, Troy locks himself away in his room. He knows he's built up a legion of enemies during his cult tenure. Any slip up and he might find a knife inbetween his ribs, or his food poisoned. Or, the crew could easily fucking lynch him.
The former cult leader is severly lacking in people skills, to put it lightly. He's an intensely guarded and private person, almost to the point of being anti- social.
He's a deadly combination of quickfire wit and scathing sarcasm.
He's also excellent with his words, cultivating his skills over the years on Pandora, wielding it like a double-edged blade. Words can be more powerful than bullets, and he can viciously dissect his enemies. He's transferred his disdain from his followers onto the Raiders, and he's decidedly more vicious.
Troy has spent a good amount of time talking at people, but has no idea how to talk to them. A superiority complex, plus a lifetime of trust issues only exacerbates this problem.
For this reason, the way he talks down to people is a huge point of contention amongst many of the Raiders. At worst, he talks to them with blistering contempt to, at best, mocking sarcasm.
He's almost started fights because he just didn't know when to stop being a smarmy asshole and shut the fuck up.
However, people who try to pick a fight quickly back off when they realize he's a six-foot-seven wolf in wolf's clothing. Looking like a freak still has its advantages!
He has no idea how to engage in a normal conversation. Seriously, how the fuck do you ask "please" and say "thank you?"
While he's highly intelligent, he has little in way of patience when it comes to explaining things. If people don't get what he's trying to explain the first time around, he becomes immediately dismissive of them. Not exactly ideal for team building.
Sneers at the thought of friendship and camaraderie amongst the raiders. The thought of having others watching your back is an alien concept.
He lacks the obvious charisma that Tyreen has, and whatever charm he does have doesn't work on the Raiders because they all know it's an obvious ruse. It's unsettling how easy people can see through your bullshit when you're out of your element.
Realizes that he was just another stepping stone for Tyreen's selfish pursuit of godhood. So what if he's a tool being used by the opposite side? He's not bitter. Not at all.
It's better than nothing, he tries to convince himself. Or rotting in away nowhere. Or being manipulated by the one person you thought would tear apart the universe for you.
