You know what? What I just received in the mail might just out me off of buying from black owned businesses. 😒
I've never endorsed a product but I use Bevel. Great product, black owned business, affordable, and amazingly packaged and supplied with fantastic customer service. A product designed for black men and our unique hair, guaranteed no razor bumps or ingrown hairs. Finally a system of products that work for us and you don't even need to go to a store to get it; it comes right to your door. I stand by this product and I took it upon myself to shoot this image and promote it, because, darn if I'm not all in and it's great to have a entrepreneur from a young guy making a product specifically designed for us that actually works, is amazingly well put together, from packaging, to construction AND DOES NOT LEAND TO SELF HATE OR CONFORMING TO OTHERS STANDARDS OF BEAUTY, BUT INSTEAD PROMOTES AND EMBRACES THE NATURAL BEAUTIFUL FEATURES WE HAVE. And it's perfect for those with out a father to teach them the essentials. A booklet is included wit everything from not only how to use the product and what each is for, but also, how to hold the razor (correct angle), correct direction to stroke, and where you are supposed to change stoke direction.

The Bennett Career Institute (BCI) School of Cosmetology, Barbering and Makeup Artistry celebrated 50 Years in Black Cosmetics, with a Black Tie Makeup Legend’s Gala. The event was the opening of the final Celebrity Makeup Symposium on May 1, 2015 at the Carnegie Library in Washington, DC. The Gala acknowledged all the accomplishments in black cosmetics and featured Grammy Award winner Faith Evans.
The event honored pioneers in Makeup Artistry and as the original artists at the Celebrity Makeup Symposium. Among the honorees was our very own Vera Moore, who not only received the Beauty Entrepreneurship Award, but also was the keynote speaker at this event where all the legends in black cosmetics were in attendance – Flori Roberts, Fashion Fair, Black Opal, and IMAN Cosmetics.
The fashion show of beautiful models from Models, Inc. wore make-up from Flori Roberts, Fashion Fair, Vera Moore, and Black Opal which displayed the wonderful shades and colors that are available in black cosmetics.
The following honorees for the evening are greats within their own right:
Derrick Rutledge was born and raised in Washington, DC. He went to college to be an opera singer, but along the way discovered he was an incredible artist. He started painting celebrity faces at BET. He’s worked on many faces including: First Lady, Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, and Oscar winning actress, Monique to name a few.
Reggie Wells is best known as Oprah Winfrey’s long-time makeup artist for over 21 years. Reggie Wells was also a frequent guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show. His career as a makeup artist spans a period of more than 30 years. Mr. Wells won an Emmy Award as well as authored the book, “Face Painting”. Learn from the one who is loved by many of the celebrities as well as many others.
Vera Moore is a former actress who turned entrepreneur and now is President/CEO of the family-owned business, Vera Moore Cosmetics. Her cosmetics were designed from the guidance of a licensed esthetician, “clear it up, vs. cover it up.” Ms. Moore was one of the first black actresses on a one hour soap opera “NBC’s Another World” for 10 years where she portrayed “Linda Metcalf”. Vera Moore realized the void in the market for quality products for women of color and this gave birth to Vera Moore Cosmetics. Her cosmetics broke through the color barrier when her company became the first black-owned business to set up shop in the 50-year history at the prestigious Green Acres Mall Valley Stream, Long Island NY. Her cosmetics boutique became the first African American-owned store in Kings Plaza mall in Brooklyn, New York. Ms. Moore helped to pave the way for other African American cosmetics lines to launch, such as IMAN Cosmetics, Black Opal, and COVERGIRL Queen Collection. Vera Moore Cosmetics can be found in LOOK Boutiques in Duane Reade stores across New York City. Vera Moore’s latest accomplishment is having her cosmetics available for sale in Walgreens all across the nation.
To add a special touch to the evening, there was a fashion show of beautiful models from Models, Inc. who wore make-up from Flori Roberts, Fashion Fair, Vera Moore, and Black Opal which displayed the wonderful shades and colors that are available in black cosmetics.
The very talented and gifted, Faith Evans, who was stunning and makeup was impeccable, performed two of her favorite hit songs and made the evening an awesome and memorable event.
Included in the weekend were hands on workshops and classes, the opportunity to get certified, and a bus trip to the NYC Makeup Show. If you would like to take the guesswork out of makeup shopping, go to “my top makeup brands for brown skin girls”.
This event was phenomenal and showed the true sense of how black cosmetics have impacted the African American community as well as the nation as a whole. Congratulations to all the award recipients for their determination, expertise, and true entrepreneurship. WELL DONE!!
