It's more than Black Panther. It's an entire movement.
After looking at how Paul wants us to breakdown our papers, I looked into a bit more on Afrofuturism. I wanted to study its deeper roots that could create more connections into my film. From the HuffPost, I found it to show some promising factors. According to the article, Afrofuturism is about a future filled with the arts, scientific progression, and technological advances inspired by Africa.
The purpose of this movement is to promote and celebrate the innovation of black culture. A key artist that represented this movement that inspires many other artists today is Sun Ra. He is a musician that creates songs through storytelling. In his story, Sun Ra combines space and jazz together as a piece of art. In addition to storytelling, Black Panther is still one of the latest impacts to this worlds’ understanding of Afrofuturism. An example of a character that represents the intelligence of black culture is Princess Shuri. Arguably one of the smartest people in the Marvel universe, she protects and builds upon the black panther suit she created for her brother.
