as much as i loved the step up franchise, they made a movie franchise about hip hop dancing with zero black leads…
YALL!
There’s a show that comes out October 2nd on Hulu and Peacock called FrightKrewe. It’s basically about this girl and her friends who are gifted powers from powerful spirits after the mc, a Black girl, accidentally wakes an evil spirit that her ancestor locked away. It’s set in New Orleans too, so I don’t know about anyone else but I’m sat.
Update: I just wanted to add some more info about this. Fright Krewe is an animated horror series and it was made by DreamWorks.
“How could we possibly make a monoracial Black girl character as the main lead though 🥺? She can’t be funny AND into fashion, that’s unrealistic and won’t appeal to the kids!”
That’s So Raven and True Jackson VP are literally right there, but ok
So I want to talk about my favorite horror movie(s) of all time.
Fear street: 1994
Fear street: 1978
Fear street: 1666
There based off of R.L stein and this trilogy is so fucking good. Its about a town called Shadyside nicknamed ‘Murder capital USA’, and has been supposidly cursed by a witch named Sarah Fierr. this town is right next to the town of Sunnyville which as of 1994 has celebrated its 30th year with no violent crime.
Its an insanely good trilogy.
The main character Deena is a black lesbian and she is a total badass with amazing character development. (im specifing shes black because you dont see a lot of black queer leads).
Her little brother Josh is a huge nerd and also has great character development
If you like Stranger things then the second movie Stars Sadie Sinks as the main character Ziggy.
there are a ton of twists, an amazing connected plot throughout the trilogy, dear god its good. the schemes they good guys come up with to beat the bad guys are super creative and awesome. You see a ton of serial killers and mixes the classic slasher tropes with interconnected stories, the paranormal, coming of age. its so good.
This Trilogy is 10/10 in my book and i would highly recommend.
Spoilers ahead!
Sleepy Hollow (Fox . 2013)
