why do black millenials hate white people so much?
oh right they’re brainwashed by the internet
As arbitrary and kinda silly as the methodology of drawing generations is, I just want to show some love to my generation, because no matter how older generations fall into the trope of shit talking us, I know and know of so many people doing incredible and often thankless work in the ongoing quest for liberation. And others doing the amazing work of simply existing as oppressed peoples who have been and continue to be systematically targeted for death and erasure on every front imaginable. We are awesome, and no one can tell me otherwise.
20 Something and Scared Project: Get It Together
June 25th 2017: I have decided to get my shit together. I recently graduated from college and I am currently living at home with my mom. The Leo moon in me scathing at this idea of living at home with my mother jobless. Alas it is with in reason. I should start working at this new job soon and I'll be making okay money for 15 hours a week which will give me time to study for the LSAT. Lately I've been feeling down. I feel as though my entire world is crumbling down. My family and I are at odds and I'm ok with that but it was all at the wrong time. I'm 22 years old and have yet to get my license. Everyone has bailed on me and the thought of asking one more person to help me out may just kill me. So I've decided to take matters into my own hands by saving up my money for driving school. My goal is to get my license by December. At first, my goal was to get it September but this girl who is no longer a friend of mine bailed as usual but we'll discuss her in a later post. Post grad life is like leaving Disney World, a bubble of magical hopes and chocolate studded dreams only to go out side of the bubble to see what the rest of Florida actually looks like; a swampy hot muggy mess. That's my life at the moment a swampy mess. I didn't like college much nor did I hate it. I went to a PWI in a predominantly White state. No my life wasn't necessarily like Dear White People but I felt alienated by the White "woke" and non woke as well as my own people. I didn't fit in with them. You see. When you are in a predominantly white space as a Black person you either overly perform your Blackness in an effort to win over "exotic" zoo points from the curious white folk or you completely abandon yourself and or culture all together. I grew in said state and have been single for my entire life because, well, Black guys here don't like Black girls especially ones like me (Tall, confident intelligent, outspoken, fiery, dark skin and unapologetically geeky). I also didn't want to deal with the devil I didn't know i.e. interracial dating. The thought of some non Black guy calling me his ebony mama or commenting on my hair while privately Kiking with their buddies about how they may get African hot jungle pussy tonight didn't seem like the wave for me, so I just decided to "literally not". All and all college was eh! I found myself moving through different spaces in a piss poor effort to try to get "involved" but quickly realized the real lies. None of these supposedly inclusive "orgs" were meant for people like me, Black girls. So as time went on I found my self slowly but steadily chucking the middle finger and eventually allowing the index finger to take a hint and step forth. May 2017, came and I had burned a good amount of bridges before I walked across the stage at our schools gym arena. My supposed "best friend" of 4 years gave me the cold shoulder at our graduation ceremony and I hadn't spoken to the bitch since. For some reason, I'm not sad. In fact maybe glad that it happened. We were too different and had different plans and goals. Towards the end I knew it was time to just bounce. That night, after my graduation ceremony, I fled the college town with no plans of returning. And now, I am here. Jobless, scared, lonely and a little broken about what's to come. Nevertheless I can't allow stress and anxiety to debilitate me. I've got to find a way to move forward. The job will come and the LSAT prep is slowly coming. I'm a little bummed about my most recent friend loss but hey she's a flake and I don't have time. I just hate feeling helpless and dare I say it, powerless. I have no idea what going to happen next. I've been reading a lot of astrology posts and I'm learn about my North Node sign Scorpio. Scorpio invites change and follows their heart to the bitter end, me not so much. I'm a control freak who needs to know what's going on at all times. Routine is nice as I was raised by a Capricorn Sun Leo Moon Taurus Rising Black woman from the dirty south. I grew up poor but stability was something that never lacked in our house hold. We always had food, lights and water. Things were pretty regimented around our home. I didn't know what moving was like until I went to college at 18. It was nice but I can definitely see where I'm getting this new found sickening anxiety from. I have no idea what I'm doing and I have very little direction. My future is contingent upon this standardized exam that was made for and by White men. I don't have a car or a job and my friends are basically all gone. I have but $20 left to my name and a bus pass that expires towards the end of the month. My hair has grown out and my skin looks a hot muggy mess. But I'm here I guess. And I'm doing it. Today is the day that I get my life in order.
Does anyone watch All Def Digital on youtube? They've got some good content but you can tell that most of the creators are cishet black men and that's sooo disappointing. I love that there's something out there for black millenials but they need to diversify the voices more, because some of the jokes and stuff in their videos have me side eyeing
