Invincible Alpha/Beta/Omega Scents!
I just wanted to start this off with a disclaimer! Number one:
COMIC AND SHOW SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
Number two: These are only my opinions! You can have different views on these characters— actually, I encourage it. I encourage you! Write more fanfiction so I can read them! Show me how you see these characters and dynamics so I can enjoy it!
Oh buddy BOI, it’s been a while since I’ve posted. But, since then I’ve gotten into Invincible! Yay! Therefore, I wanted to write something for Invincible! Since I’ve been getting really into Perfumerie for some reason, I dunno it just latched onto me, I decided to blend those two things together! Buuuut, just doing that would be boring, and since this IS Tumblr, I made it Alpha/Beta/Omega themed, because I have free will and no control over my hyperfixations or impulses. Only the fanfiction I read on AO3.
Ergo, I bring to you:
Invincible Alpha/Beta/Omega Scents!
Well—hol’ up. Let me ramble just a liiiiiiittle bit more before we start. If you don’t mind. Or maybe you do. I wouldn’t know, I’m just havin’ fun. Anyways— When making perfumes and building scents, they are separated into three categories:
Top Notes: Top notes are usually things that are sharp and fresh scents. The top notes also fade pretty quickly compared to the rest of the scents in the blend.
Heart Notes (or if you’re BORING, Middle Notes): The Heart Notes, as the name suggests, is the Heart of the scent. It’s usually a smooth transition from the Top Notes into the Heart Notes. These notes usually lean towards the spicy, the herbal, and or the floral. They have about a medium longevity when it comes to building the scent.
Base Notes: Finally, the Base Notes. The building blocks of the scent. These tend to be your heavy hitters, heady smells, gourmands, woods. It also tends to last longer than any of the other notes.
Now, this is what I based my scents off of. Did I follow this formula to a T? Haha, no. But I just really wanted to yap about it because I did take it into account when making these scents. I also looked at so many charts and scent wheels, and lost too many brain cells smelling many different things from body soaps, deodorants and even candles! AND watched a lot of videos. Like THREE whole videos. That’s a lot for my crappy attention span, mind you. Don’t forget all the Mark/Rex, Mark/William fanfics I read on AO3... This took me like a month—
A-Anyways—Enough yapping! Onwards to the POST~! (Which is just…more yapping…haha...)
Supers:
Invincible (Mark Grayson):
Alrighty! Marky Boi up first! He was quite simple for me to find a scent for. He looked like a tree type-a’ guy. Strong, steady, rooted in the Earth. Now, I could also see him as an Alpha, but I decided Omega for him because of a few reasons. He’s big and loving, protective like a puppy, and has big ‘ol brown puppy dog eyes. Also, he seems to like women in charge, and honestly, same. Therefore:
Gender: Omega.
Top Notes: Bright citrus, and Musk.
Heart Notes: Pine resin, and Spring Pincones.
Base Notes: Wet Forest Floor, Vanilla Wood, and Cypress.
Mark is like a blooming thicket after a long storm. Sun streaming through the sprawling landscape of woods. Their cones, a sappy new growth, and the forage, warmed by the sun, citrusy and fresh.
Kid-Omni-Man (Oliver Grayson):
Ah, good ‘ol Ollie. Purple bug baby. He’s a cutie patootie for sure aaannndd—not human in the slightest. Ergo would not have an Alpha/Beta/Omega scent. I thought about not even including him because of this but I decided; “Hey! I’m the writer here! The rules of this are my OWN to make!”. Also! Since he’s still a kid, I headcannon that his scent hasn’t fully developed yet, therefore he’ll still smell like milk! And yes. I stole that from a fanfic off AO3. Anyways:
Gender: NA, (Beta).
Top Notes: Bright Tropical Fruits, and Blood Notes.
Heart Notes: Grape Soda, and Comic Book Pages.
Base Notes: Elderberry, Frankincense, Milky Notes, and Musk.
Oliver is like a memory from your past. An afternoon spent on your childhood home’s patio. You sit, wood warm from your body heat as you drink a soda in the summer heat. The patio door is open just a crack, letting its welcoming and familiar scent waft out to you, your mother’s favorite oil and the fruit bowl on the counter. You read your favorite comic book and smile.
Omni-Man (Nolan Grayson):
I had to get help with him, I gotta be honest. I really had no idea what he was gonna smell like and after a very funny phone call with a friend (shout out, you know who you are), I got something that actually makes me really happy! I kinda wanted to make him an Omega, but the sheer amount of aggression he showed in the first season just ruined that for me:
Gender: NA, (Alpha).
Top Notes: Musk, and Blood Notes.
Heart Notes: Wildflowers, Burnt Sage, and Red Berries.
Base Notes: Melon Notes, and Waterfall Notes.
Nolan is like looking down over a cliff diving spot. The waterfall roars as the smell of the surrounding foliage wafts around you, you stare over the precipice. You’re soaked, mouth sticky and stained from your picnic snack and knees scraped from climbing. But..you’re happy. You jump from the cliff, and you fly. The water splashes over your body. You embrace it.
Atom Eve (Samantha Eve Wilkins):
As I was adding these little flavor texts, I found myself avoiding Eve’s for some reason. Like I couldn’t find the proper words to describe her, I’ve settled on the following though. She’s got integrity, she’s fiercely independent, a strong visionary, I mean like—get it girl boss! And that’s why I made her an Alpha. Also, I just decided to really lean into the ‘Adam Eve’ of the ‘Atom Eve’, hehe:
Gender: Alpha.
Top Notes: Pink Grapefruit, and Ozonic Notes.
Heart Notes: Green Apple, and Lipgloss.
Base Notes: Apple Wood, and Pink Champagne.
Eve is like a festival in the middle of a fruit filled orchard. Vast and beautifully ambitious, the festival of harvest is brimming with a myriad of unique flavors and driven workers celebrating their successful passions. Seeing the festival, its workers, its victories, it brings you a sense of belonging and pride. You pour yourself a glass of champagne and join in the celebration.
Rex-Splode (Rex Sloan):
Rexy-Sexy time! (That’s what I have as his nickname in Tomodachi life, cause it makes me laugh.) Out of all the fanfictions I’ve read, they pretty much all came to the same conclusion about his scent and gender. And you know what I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT?! Yeah, all your opinions are valid and I shall be your echo chamber and scream it into Tumblr:
Gender: Omega.
Top Notes: Raw Amber, and Clove.
Heart Notes: Sweet Cardamom, Cinnamon, and Nutmeg.
Base Notes: Caramelized Sugar, Firewood, and Hot Iron.
Rex is like a bonfire in fall. Friends gathered around, the smell of the burning wood and piquant drinks filling the air around you. You poke the fire with the hot iron. This moment in time is warm and bright despite the chill around the area. It makes you fuzzy inside and out.
The Immortal:
I wish I liked the Immortal’s character more than I do. I don’t mean to insult, he’s fine, but he’s just so weak and his power scaling just pisses me off sometimes. I enjoyed the way I did his scent though! I think it really fits him! Total Alpha, super aggressive, little cray cray. Also that beard? Yepper:
Gender: Alpha.
Top Notes: Wet Moss, Mist, and Mountain Air
Heart Notes: Dried Lavender, Stone Dust, and Dried Fig.
Base Notes: Animal Hide, Birch Water, and Forest Musk.
The Immortal is like a long ascent to the apex of a mountain, a journey. You start at the bottom, wet moss beneath your feet as you pass by a flowing stream. Along your climb you find yourself admiring the fields of lavender around you. Taking a moment to sit on top of an old crumbled stone to eat your trail mix. Upon reaching the top, you see a deer drinking out of the same stream you followed to get here, and you finally relax.
Robot (Rudolph Conners):
Ok so, since Rudy TECHNICALLY pulled a ‘skin-walker’ and stole Rex’s body, he should TECHNICALLY smell the same. Buuuut, I make the rules. So therefore I just want him to smell—like—eerily similar to Rex, but not exact. Also something: I headcannon that before stealing Rex’s skin, Rudy was a Beta! But now he’s an Omega like Rexy-Sexy is. Alrighty, here we go:
Gender: Omega (Was Beta).
Top Notes: Raw Amber, Caramelized Sugar.
Heart Notes: Hot Apple Cider, Sweet Cardamom, Nutmeg, and Clove.
Base Notes: Maple Leaves, Sap, and Milky Notes.
Rudy is like a warm walk in autumn through city parks. Gentle light beams winnowing through bright orange maple leaves, the fragrance of hot cider and spice billowing from the cup warming your hands, is like a downy balm for your soul. The sugary perfume of a local hipster hangout spot, catches your nose across the park. Clicking keyboards of brilliant students and maple syrup delights draw you into the hang out spot. You take a seat and sigh, relaxing in the sunshine.
Monster Girl (Amanda):
I’m just gonna be honest, I couldn’t get over the fact that she was GREEN. Therefore, she is mostly just green stuff, haha! I thought about giving her a separate scent for her monster form, but just decided upon combining the scents together. It just made more sense to me. Not because I was being lazy—noooo. Also, she’s an Alpha. No doubt about it. She literally got someone pregnant in the comics—Anyways! Here we are:
Gender: Alpha.
Top Notes: Green Grapes, and Musk.
Heart Notes: Daisy, Grape Vines and Vintage Cloth.
Base Notes: Brown Sugar, Milky Notes, and Marshmallow Root.
Amanda is like a sprawling, wild grove of tangled vines and sugared flowers, just waiting to be explored. Overgrown with sweet smelling roots and tart tasting fruits baring themselves like jewels if only you dig deep enough to find them. Sitting on an old, yet well held together blanket, you begin to dip the tartness you’ve found into the sweetness of some sugar. It seemingly brightens up the dense foliage. It’s as if it were blooming just for you.
Shrinking Rae (Rachel):
Again, I couldn’t get over the fact she was GREEN! Just because I don’t know her too well, but she seems mild enough I’ll be designating her as a Beta. Also, I love her accent. Just perfect for her. I really wish I had more to say on her but we don’t really get to see her outside her relationship to Rex and that makes me sad:
Gender: Beta.
Top Notes: Lemon Balm and Olive Leaves.
Heart Notes: Sweet Marjoram, Banana Nut Muffins and Rosemary.
Base Notes: Eucalyptus, and Beach Sand.
Rachel is like a picnic on the beach. A nutty and sweet aroma flows through the air as you enjoy the feeling of sand between your toes. More coziness flourishes in your chest as the pungence of herbs emerges from your picnic basket, almost so potent that it could count as aromatherapy for your very nerves. Flowery rosemary, sweet minty marjoram, lemon balm tea leaves and eucalyptus lotion for the sun. The perfect picnic.
Shapesmith:
Hehehe, this guy is so weird and I love him for it. Another one that has no human in him but, and say it with me now, “I make the ruuuulleeess~! I say what gooooeeess~!”. Also, if it actually existed? He’d smell like the ‘Odd Onion’ from Slime Rancher. At first I was just gonna make him a Beta, but then I realized, he can be ANYTHING he wants to be. AT ANY TIME! All he has to do is switch himself around! So, I put him as everything. But if I had to choose just one? Beta. Let’s go:
Gender: NA, (Everything).
Top Notes: Onion, and Bubble Solution.
Heart Notes: Gummy Bears.
Base Notes: Silly Bands, and Bubble Gum.
Shapsmith is like a blast from the past. Something that can take you back to when everything was new and bright. New toys, sweet treats, even blowing bubbles. Boundless enthusiasm for even the smallest sensation. Watching that can make you feel joy beyond measure.
Dupli-Kate (Katherine Cha):
Just like the Immortal, I wish I liked Kate more. But in all honesty, there’s nothing wrong with her character. I just don’t find her to be very interesting. She’s mild, that’s why she’s a Beta. Her scent was hard to find, but I think I’ve got it down good:
Gender: Beta.
Top Notes: Black Current, and White Musk,
Heart Notes: Ylang Ylang, Orchid, and Violets.
Base Notes: Velvet, Almond Paste, and Dried Fruits.
Kate is like a patisserie and charcuterie covered table, in a garden of flowers. Velvet seats, silver platters piled high with fruit and almond pastries. You inhale, the bouquet of the botanical aroma around you was so rich you could taste it before you took a bite of the almond treat. It added a whole new layer of flavor, upon flavors. So many multitudes within one thing, making it perfect.
Bulletproof (Zandale Randolph):
I don’t know much about Bulletproof other than the fact that I like his voice and the fact that he tries to pull a Rudy and take over Invincible’s suit (While attempting to get on Eve—)…and yeah that’s about it. Alpha, but he at least seems like the type of dude to smell like really good, expensive cologne. Not too much, not too little:
Gender: Alpha.
Top Notes: Light Musk, and Shea Butter.
Heart Notes: Bright Cardamom, and Caramelized Honey.
Base Notes: Teakwood, and Palo Santo.
Zandale is like a dinner date in a high rise penthouse. Looming over the city, lights casting a romantic sight just for the two of you. The redolence of your date’s cologne circles the room, putting you at ease even if you might feel a little out of your element. Smooth jazz flowed through the space as you and your date drift closer together to enjoy the view.
Black Sampson (Markus Grimshaw):
I love the show, but I think that it’s really sad that he has an entire POWER SET that I had NO IDEA HE HAD until I looked at his Wiki. Did you know he had electrogenesis? No? Neither did I! But uhm, anyways. Wanna know what else? I learned he likes gardening! I also had a really hard time deciding between Alpha or Omega for him. Alpha because of his conversation in season one with Rex, and Omega for his fixation on family. I couldn’t decide so I just did the middle ground:
Gender: Beta.
Top Notes: Metal Shavings, Juniper Citrus, and Electric Notes.
Heart Notes: Citronella, Wild Blackberry, and Herbal Musk.
Base Notes: Walnut Wood, and Damp Earth Minerals.
Grimshaw is like a shaded garden, hidden from the world within a lush forest. Though, It’s less a garden, more like a self contained greenhouse. Herbs sprouting from the ground in troves, trees abloom with fruited buds, and bushes of ripe blackberries as the fence, keeping it all tied together. A hidden sanctuary of abundance.
Brit (Brittney):
Brit! You’re hot, but I don’t know anything about you! I kinda just like—scraped the bottom of the barrel for information on him and made an educated guess on what he’d smell like. Wanna hear what I know? He’s old, he’s invulnerable, and he owns a strip club! Sounds like an old fashioned Alpha to me:
Gender: Alpha.
Top Notes: Gunpowder, and Tobacco Leaves.
Heart Notes: Toasted Nuts, Toffee, and Smoked Whiskey.
Base Notes: Oud, and Oak Wood.
Brittney is like that feeling you get when you meet an old friend at the bar. Smoked whiskey and toasted nuts are a heady scent, settling into your bones just as well as the drinks here manage. The door swings open, letting in a waft of burning tobacco to greet your senses as a hand lands on your shoulder. Firm and warm like fresh toffee, you turn, pause, and smile.
The Humans:
Debbie Grayson:
Debbie is one of the best characters in the show. She has brought so much emotional depth to every scene she’s in, and her voice actor’s performance is just—chefs kiss! She’s a warming and grounding force for everyone she loves, and I wanted her scent and gender to reflect that:
Gender: Beta.
Top Notes: Rain Notes, and Tonka Beans.
Heart Notes: Warm Laundry, Vanilla Chia, and Praline.
Base Notes: Eastern White Pine, and Red Wine.
Debbie is like a warm hug after a sluggish day. Once home, someone who cares for you, may they be friend, family, or lover, greets you at the door. They see the exhausted look in your eyes and pull you over to the couch. The blanket they give you is fresh out of the dryer, so snug it warms you to your core. They hand you a cup of tea and turn on the defuser. Talking is easy and you feel comfortable in no time. Safe and cared for, you could never want for anything more.
William Clockwell:
I love William. He’s so dead ass and clocks your BS so fast, and WARNING HOT TAKE: I like both his NEW and OLD voice. I think both fit him. Also the guy who does his new voice is the Dysentery Guy from ‘Ghosts’ and I just love that for him. Because we all agree that William would love ghosts, yeah? I also made him an Omega, mostly just because of that speech he made to Rick while he was fighting off Sinclair’s control:
Gender: Omega.
Top Notes: Cotton Candy.
Heart Notes: Pink Pepper, and Iced Vanilla.
Base Notes: Burnt Sugar, and Birthday Cake.
William is like a surprise birthday party. Sweet and a little shocking, you enjoy yourself nonetheless. Gifts line the tables, not always what you wanted but still filled with the love of well meaning friends. You enjoy the party, its sweetness, its spice, and its burnt parts.
Paul:
Ah, Paul. Pauly! Paul Man! Ollie was right, you’re boring. So, so, so, boring. COUGH COUGH—beta—COUGH COUGH. But that’s part of your charm! Also, Debbie shouldn’t have left you, man. I mean, I know that Nolan and Debbie have to get back together and all— but COME ON! You were SO NICE! Not to mention I really appreciated your character! But I digress:
Gender: Beta.
Top Notes: Dahlia, and Tea Tree.
Heart Notes: Cucumber, and Clean Linens.
Base Notes: Santal, Sage Oil, and Black Coffee.
Paul is like laying in fresh bedding first thing in the morning. Clean and soft, the sheets hug and caress your body, providing you with the utmost comfort. Your coffee machine downstairs turns on, the scent of fresh ground beans lingers in the morning air as you stir. You look outside your window and see flowers blooming on your balcony. Today will be a good day.
Rick (Richard Sheridan):
As I did research on the characters for this post, it came as a surprise to me that Rick, RICK. Rick, William’s boyfriend and super duper side character SUPREME, has a last name! Monster Girl doesn’t get a last name. Neither does Shrinking Rae. But Rick? Yeaaah, give him the last name. Now, I have nothing against his character whatsoever, I actually really like what little we got to see of his character, I’m just surprised he got so much compared to the MAIN CAST. And, I headcannon that due to the changes Sinclair put on his body, his gender changed. Why? I dunno. Thought it was cool:
Gender: Beta (Was Alpha).
Top Notes: Fresh Bread, and Vanilla Musk.
Heart Notes: Fresh Cream, Fuzzy Sage, and Buttery Croissants.
Base Notes: Rosewood and Aluminum Notes.
Rick is like a welcoming bakery in the middle of the woods. The smell was what drew you inside the bakery’s brick walls. Butter and vanilla cream, wrapped in pleasantly crisp dough prolongs your stay in comfort. The woods and large lake outside, almost rose in color with the setting sun, put you at ease.
Donald Ferguson:
I’m actually very proud of this one, I think it really fits his character. He needed something that fit his demeanor, soft, dry, a little hint of sweetness. Donald is the goat, honestly. I love him, I do. Remember that cute little smile he gave Mark as he welcomed him back to Earth? Yeah, he’s the best:
Gender: Beta.
Top Notes: Warm Sandalwood, and Smooth Suede.
Heart Notes: Beach Grass, and Pear.
Base Notes: Aluminum notes, and Electric Notes.
Donald is like a comfortable rest on a bench after a long walk on the beach. Fruit bearing trees provide shade overhead and there’s an electric scent in the air promising a soothing rain. You hike up your smooth leather jacket, fiddling with the metal zipper before smiling up at the clouds.
Cecil Stedman:
Stedman, Stedman, Stedman…he’d hate this post if he were real and I’d laugh in his face for it. He’s my favorite in the show but I don’t think I really did his scent justice. Is it too late in the post to mention I’m open to suggestions for character scent notes in the comments? Nah! It’s never too late! I’m open to suggestions for character scent notes in the comments—:
Gender: Alpha.
Top Notes: Bergamont, chlorine, and Sea Salt.
Heart Notes: Sea Minerals, Ice, and Smoky Bourbon.
Base Notes: Oud, Boot Oil, and Old Leather.
Cecil is like an office on the coast. Worn and comfortable, you sit on the polished leather couch as the idle sound of keyboard keys and waves sound in the background. The window is cracked open, allowing the smell of the salt and ocean filter through the tidy space. Cold and fresh as you sip your alcohol.
Amber Bennet:
Ah, Amber..they could never make me hate you. Where did you go? What happened to you after you no longer were dating Mark? We didn’t even get a snip-it unlike the comics! So I had to include her on this list, give her some justice:
Gender: Beta.
Top Notes: Orange Blossom, and Honeysuckle.
Heart Notes: Cactus Flower, Candied Orange Zest, and Jasmine.
Base Notes: Warm Amber, and Sweet Peach.
Amber is like a walk through a foreign marketplace. Candied desserts and florals dancing through the air. Some you recognize, some you don’t. It makes you feel excited, like you’re traveling to a brand new place with every flavor tasted and every flower smelled.
Extras from a Friend:
I shared this document with a friend and they did some really great headcannons for the other Viltrumites! So get ready for some:
SINCAT HEADCANNONS!
Anissa: NA, Alpha.
Top: Lipstick, Leather, Asphalt
Heart: Linens and Orange Blossom
Base: Pine, Basswood (or some other dark/rich honey) Honey
Anissa was also even more aggressive with her approach, between what she did to Mark, and her sheer disinterest in humans upon her arrival, I think her would be the harshest.
Kregg: NA, Alpha.
Top: Leather, Roses, Engine Oil, Smoke
Heart: Tea Leaves, Garlic, (Some things else savory and sweet)
Base: Black pepper, Ocean Water, Sandalwood
Kregg was already an acquired taste, his approach to Earth was rushed, which ultimately is why he ended up with so many human mates before realizing that having so many would become an issue especially with the lack of communication and at the time care put into it. I don't think was a complete deadbeat to his mates and children but, I think because he was always on the move. He at first didn't get a handle on common human practice like Lucan and Anissa did.
Lucan: NA, Beta.
Top: Linens, Parchment, Sage
Heart: Peaches, Apple Blossoms, Orchard
Base: Plywood, Spring Water, Sawdust
Out of the three main three vilitrumites we see, Lucans scent would be the "cleanest" or most bearable. Mostly because he's the only Beta, he stuck out the most, his approach to Earth wasn't nearly as aggressive, he did the best to blend in, IMO he was the first to respect Earth and it's common practices. (In the comics he's completely monogamous to his human mate because he was told by her that it would hurt her, in his arrival to Earth he's had his hands the least dirtied.
Conquest: NA, Omega.
Top: Musk, Asphalt, Smoke
Heart: Lavender, Sage, Bergamot
Base: Metallic, Earthy
SINCAT IS AN OMEGA CONQUEST TRUTHER!
If he went to Earth his approach to the Humans would be pretty on par in aggression with the others, but he'd be slower about it, much more reluctant to pick someone because he's tired and old.
Thragg: NA, Omega.
Top: Musk, Blood
Heart: Burnt Sage, Oak, Asphalt
Base: Cavernous, Mineral Water
Thraggs Scent would be similar to Nolans because of the fact that they are related or at the very least have a very DEEP history with each other.
