thinking about it and honestly I think the main reason people mischaracterize Tommy (like when they’re actually trying and just missing the mark not when they r intentionally bastardizing and misrepresenting him simply bc they do not gaf about him or his character) I think the main reason is because people can correctly identify that Tommy is afraid of connection and intimacy but fail to understand WHY he is afraid of connection and intimacy and because of that will chalk it up to the basic reason characters are scared of connection ie they are afraid of being hurt by it which has NEVER been true for Tommy Tommy is a character who does not care about his own mental or physical wellbeing and he is NOT scared of connection because he thinks it will hurt him he EXPECTS relationships to hurt him it’s why he doesn’t push back against Billy treating him the way he does he as a character has never cared about being hurt he continuously lets himself be hurt both physically and emotionally because he does not care what happens to him that isn’t important to him okay? the reason Tommy is scared of connection and intimacy is because Tommy is afraid of being ABANDONED, not hurt, and that is a VERY different kind of fear and I think a lot of people trying to understand his character fail to grasp that fact which is truly unfortunate bc Tommy’s fear of abandonment is like. the basis of his entire character tbh. so like maybe that’s a little important to understand. but uh

this is why btw a sense of control is something Tommy does not care about perusing in a relationship (romantic or platonic) and in fact is something he actively sacrifices and gives up because letting the other party have the control in their relationship means that there is less of a chance that he can disappoint them and force them to leave bc they are the one controlling their relationship and he doesn’t care about that lack of control even if it gets him hurt because he would rather be loved in a way that hurts than be left behind again. btw

Look Tommy and Kate’s relationship will always fascinate me because there is an inherent power dynamic at play there and both of them not only find comfort in that fact but actively encourage it. Kate needs control in her life because otherwise she feels like she is constantly in danger and Tommy needs a way to make people pleased with him so that he will not be abandoned and they get that in each other. Tommy is Kate’s way of exerting control in the Young Avengers and proving to herself that she CAN control the situation and the people around her despite her struggle for leadership and control w Eli and Kate is Tommy’s way of having a surefire place on the team because if he keeps her happy with him and let’s her control him then even if the others hate him she will not and he will be safe!! Of COURSE he starts flirting with Kate at the very least partially because he thinks it will earn him his freedom bc they r coping mechanisms for each otherrrrrrr they’re each others safety net for the thing they are most afraid of!!!! Which is why btw that Eli being in the mix makes their dynamic so interesting bc he is a threat to both of them and an active representation of both of their fears!!!!!! Anyway they FASCINATE me and I will always be so deeply intrigued by everything they have going on they’re so interestinggggggggg

It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!
