When you're close to your other half, you receive a tug. However, when your string is cut, there is no tug or noticeable movement.

Kei has no recollection of when his string first turned black. He does remember when he noticed the black string wrapped around his left ring finger.

In the locker room after a raid. Kei went to wipe one of the fogged mirrors when he noticed it. He was deaf to the sorrowful noise that left his throat. His guildmates heard, however.

Someone ran to get Akira while Kenzo helped him to the floor.

"It's black." Kei mumbled as he pulled his left hand to his chest. Someone pulled him into a hug as Kei tried to process the loss of a person he had never met.
