Yesterday I noticed this. My mother (who won't read the books) and I watch the show together; but most of the time I find myself explaining her stuff (like Tyrion's wedding for example) because she doesn't understand. Do you know (or think)is is it a common ocurrence between the non- book readers?

Yes, I do!

My cousin and my mom used to watch the show as well, and they quitted. They found themselves very lost in the story, and didn’t get certain details that later on had a lot of importance. And mostly told me they found it boring at times.

I honestly don’t know how people who don’t read the books do it! Idk how they keep up, cause some things are not even clear. And it seems like the readers can connect certain things because of the extra information, but Idk if the non-readers can do the same. I mean, there’s always wiki, but reading the books, and wiking everything should not be required to watch a tv show. Seems to be you either have to be a dedicated fan, or quit.

I’m not trying to say with this that “noo the book readers are better, and just the show viewers don’t get it”. No, not at all. I think the show viewers represent a different perspective, and a different way of seeing certain situations, and I like that dynamic. But, I honestly don’t know how they manage to keep in touch, for example with the whole Rebellion part, or with the Freys, that haven’t even been mentioned or represented on season 2. Idk there are a lot of details they are leaving out, for the sake of time and making things easier, and that to me is counterproductive.

I would love to know more too tbh. I have the experience of my cousin, and my mom, but that’s it. Idk how anyone else thinks. I know there were a bunch of anons saying they have wikied mostly everything, but haven’t read the books, so maybe they can give a better answer, and also tells us if they use wiki because they were lost, or because they wanted to know more.

I’m lost at times, and i have read them. ( I didn’t even catch the change of Aerys’ death. lol) XD

Yeah, I guess there are a lot of characters. And they even haven't gotten into repeating names, which GRRM does a lot. So, maybe Asha to Yara was a good call.

Gallows humor is the best way to deal with pain generally, I think (at least for me).    

And lord knows the Starks go through a lot of pain (and us too, vicariously).  Which, of course, just makes me want to make fun of them even more.

I tend to think if any of them, it would be Arya as well. I think the whole 'you must be able to give the gift to anyone' thing has to be going somewhere, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was in that direction, plus of all the Stark bbs Arya spends the most time thinking about her mom (because she's the one moving towards her for so much of ASoS). But then today I was like what if it's Sansa and it causes a huge schism between her and Arya? And then I hated myself for thinking such a thing.
