It was an epic wine tasting this past weekend with fellow wine enthusiasts @whereyoushouldgonow. When we found out there was a Croatian grandmother in their past, that's all it took for us to put together a "three course" Croatian wine tasting. ————————————————— We started with a sparkling wine - our non-vintage Griffin Dark Side, a very unique wine made from the Portugieser grape from fruit grown in Plešivica. We've featured this wine before, and I'll say what I always do - it's the darkest sparkling wine I've ever tasted or even seen. $33.00 in our wine web store (link in profile). ————————————————— Our second wine was also from Griffin - a 2015 Single Vineyard white wine blend of Muller-Thurgau (70%) and Chardonnay (30%). Such an incredibly aromatic white wine! $22.00 in the web wine store. ————————————————— Our final wine was one that I've had a "crush" on since I've first sipped it - 2015 Matela Crljenak Kaštelanski. Yes, that's hard to pronounce! And more drinking doesn't help. This unpronounceable varietal is the original Zinfandel. Wine notes for all wines below. Tasting notes: This sparkling wine has a brooding, deep dark color, but its aroma and flavor are lively and fun. Expressive fruity aromas enchant the nose while the taste evokes raspberries and sweet cherries. In the background, light and ripe tannins complement the fruity and rounded flavors of this premium sparkling wine. This unique premium wine combines the full-bodied freshness of Chardonnay and the fruitiness of the Muller-Thurgau variety. In the glass, the wines shows a beautiful yellow-green color that instantly evokes freshness. This unique blend has a beautiful floral and fruity arom and a nice, harmonious and rounded body that gives it the predisposition of fine wine. Aroma and flavor are dominated by dark fruit, herbs and spices, pepper, a lovely balance of fruit and acid.
