This black cloak was first worn by Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth I in the HBO production 𝑬𝒍𝒊𝒛𝒂𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒉 𝑰 in 2005.   It was next seen in 2007 in the TV series 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑻𝒖𝒅𝒐𝒓𝒔, where Maria Doyle Kennedy wore it as Katharine of Aragon.   Both appearances of the cloak show it in semi-darkness, and thus the details are not in full view, though it seems to be beautifully detailed.   See more at Bit.ly/TudEliz060

Me like:

Lae’zel, who can’t even pronounce Faerûn, would not have *offhandedly* referenced Magadon Kest if it wasn’t *important* to the writers that he be *referenced*.

And Raphael’s guest log would not include *Blackcloak* in the *current year* had Raphael not *anticipated* needing his *expertise* to maintain his own *life*.

Nor would Raphael, who speaks in double entendre and metaphor, have, several times, referenced *mice* slaying the *cat* and the *Master* in his own *House* had he not been *inviting* the tadpoled to the House of Hope in order to *initiate* the work he brought Blackcloak in *to do*.

These three instances are not *coincidental*. They are *intentional on the part of the writers and it’s driving me mad that people are acting like I’m crazy* for making these connections.

"For the One I Love"

To commemorate my partner's second novel coming out later this month, I drew an image representing different aspects of his first, Blackcloak!

Because the second novel isn't out yet, I decided to focus on events and characters from the first. In the above image, I have represented the protagonist of his first novel, Charan, and the series antagonist/mentor/guardian, Vachaelle. I've worked some symbols and nods from the second novel, Gildenhammer, into this piece as well, though neither set of symbols and details make sense until you've read them. I also used inspiration from religious ikons in this piece, to really push the relationship dynamic between the two characters. Vachaelle is not Charan's mother, but you could definitely argue that she's his Maker.

Pale Lights fanart - Watch Cloak Design Concept

I figured I'd end up drawing this specific cloak/uniform a lot. So I should get a decent design down that I can reference (here's to see if EE outdates it next chapter). It's based on Musketeer fencing cloaks (or fencing capes). Because I like how versatile that design is visually. You can make several distinct different styles, allowing for a group of watch members to not all look the same. Also it's basically weaponized clothing.

NAZGUL SWORDPLAY!!! Last week, Yanapi suggested that i do some long sword flourishes during our photoshoot and its the best idea to capture them good shots!!!!
