Via @blackgirldraw 🙌🏾 "Girl by the Verandah" (detail) by Kudzanai-Violet Hwami @mwana.wevhu 🎨 Acrylic and oil on canvas, 2017 Born in Gutu, Zimbabwe, Kudzanai-Violet Hwami is a 24-year old artist based in London. Inspired by her own history of displacement, Hwami's works are palpably multilayered and transcendent. She draws influence from a variety of sources, including African fashion photography and her archive of family photos, to create digital collages which she then references for her paintings. Her eclectic works imagine and re-imagine the spaces, identities and futures of Africans in general and Zimbabweans in particular. Speaking to @heromag, she explains, "I think my paintings are visions of an idealistic future – it’s a depiction of Zimbabwe that comes out of my frustration with the situation there. I am trying to create something that I know isn’t really going to happen, but I am constantly thinking about what Zimbabwe is going to be like in the future, and I am trying to imagine the best possible version of it when I’m painting." . . . #SupportBlackArt #KudzanaiVioletHwami #BlackGirlDraw #art #blackart #painter #zimbabwe #painting #artwork #painterly #zimbabwean #artsy #africanart #africanamazing #artlovers #artdaily #artofvisuals #blkcreatives #zimbabweanartist #londonart #londonartist #zimbabweanart #artisttowatch #artworld #blackgirlmagic
