Yes. He was really blacklisted. His label pulled his music from radio when it was getting too successful, refused to send his records to radio even when it was requested, never gave him proper promotion, sent him on a promo tour of measly little UK radio stations and had every single DJ spend the whole interview asking Louis about Eleanor and Freddie, I mean… the indignities were endless.
But that’s just one aspect of why Louis’ career was stalled. It’s complex and layered and we probably don’t even know more than 2% of what went on.
I think Louis would have been left to his own devices as Niall and Liam were if he and Harry hadn’t been a package deal. But because they were, he needed to be “neutralized” as much as possible. I’d say some of it was punishment, some of his was spite, some of it was to control Harry, some of it was to break up the larrie fandom, some of it was to break up Larry… there were a lot of moving parts.
