I SEE YOU. Whilst on tour around South America with @thexx I witnessed something I've never seen anywhere else in the world — pure ecstatic energy from the audience. The atmosphere was extraordinary. Looking into the crowd and seeing people 100% engaged and immersed in the music felt refreshing — in contrast to a mass of smart phone screens, which has become the norm of experiencing anything in our modern hyper-connected world. I'm constantly fascinated in the visual and emotional exchange between artist + audience. There's such power when sea of people come together and fill the air with an electric energy, it's almost life affirming to see such connection and community. MØ. The untamed energy of @momomoyouth is unapologetic and liberated — an extraordinary performer who is always able to show up and be herself in a completely authentic way. The last time I saw her play was in the UK last Spring, whilst working together. This time, was in São Paulo in Brazil to an intimate and equally charged audience. Karen’s background rooted in punk and activism is something I was drawn to when working on her Creative Direction. As a pop artist, it’s refreshing to see the influence of punk so clearly engrained in her as an artist. During an interview she once talked about why she loves punk music, “I want to see something that’s true. The most important thing when we play live is to let go and try to be the music that we’re playing.” With her shows, she says, “You’re not hiding behind anything or hiding behind perfection.
