TUNE IN today, Saturday 28th November when I am truly honoured to have as my guest the illustrious Sista Margaret Busby OBE, Hon. FRSL (Nana Akua Ackon), long-time campaigner for diversity in publishing and booker Prize Judge. As Britain’s youngest and 1st Afrikan woman publisher, she co-founded Allison & Busby in the late 60s. Margaret has an extensive career as an editor, broadcaster, literary critic and journalist. She has served on several boards, including Wasafiri and written as for The Guardian, The Sunday Times, The Independent, The Observer and The New Statesman. She has published an array of authors including Buchi Emecheta, Chester Himes, C. L. R. James and Andrew Salkey, and books such as The Spook Who Sat by the Door (1969), The Chairman's New Clothes: Mao and the Cultural Revolution (1979), The True History of the Elephant Man (1980) and the Worst Witch series. Margaret has received honorary doctorates, fellowships, and awards including the Bocas Henry Swanzy Award, the Royal Society of Literature’s Benson Medal, and the Royal African Society’s inaugural Africa Writes Lifetime Achievement Award. She was the chair of this year’s Booker Prize board. Her contribution to publishing has revolutionised literature.
