My next three posts are going to feature stories from HBCUs this stands for historically black colleges and universities. These are the 101 institutions that were opened before desegregation where black students could receive higher education. Their student bodies were essential in mobilizing in every fight of the civil rights movement. In the decades post desegregation they have evolved into institutions where black students can see themselves reflected in the college experience. Where ambition and potential can be realized traditions can be preserved. Away from the deeply ingrained systemic racism of the places that deemed generations unworthy to learn on the basis of race. A Different world is set at a fictional HBCU. Yet the stories of perseverance and relationships can offer insight into examining the white privilege in educational experiences. The importance of making space. It is also one of the flyest looking shows ever created. I was so into Whitley’s closet and real talk no white television character could ever make flip up sunglasses a thing. A different world is on @netflixisajoke . . . . . #adifferentworld #blackcomedy #hbcupride #whitleyanddwayne #blacksitcoms #blackgirlmagic #superstation #fly #flipupsunglasses #homecoming #hillmancollege #youngemodernlaughs (at Spelman College) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBN_nB8HzyN/?igshid=370u2sk4a37l
