2021 Black-owned Survival Kit __________ Happy Black History Month! We all know last year was not what we expected. Last year was probably the last thing we expected, but now almost a year into this new life, we're seasoned enough to know what we need to keep pushing. We know what it takes (or we're still figuring out) for us to keep being productive and we're forgiving of the days when we cannot be as productive as our society would like. We've adopted February as "Our" month to recognize + reflect on the beauty of our Blackness + the contributions of our people over the years. It's a wonderful tradition that we enjoy discussing every year. _____ However, this year for @ourblackboogmag's annual #HUBuysBlack challenge we wanted this year to not only lift up the names of dope Black-owned businesses to support but to help you replace the items in your house that help us survive in our everyday lives with Black-owned brands. These items were curated with the intention of serving the whole Black person during a time when taking care of ourselves looks a lot different. We've got everything from planners to vitamins on this year's list. Many of which are from businesses based in the DMV or are Howard alumni! We curated this list to guide your dollars to Black families because and to help you perpetuate buying Black as a habit, not a special occasion.
