An Interview with Soul Wizard from Blackwitch Pudding!

God, it’s good to hear you again, Uta! I think I melted the first time I heard “Betty Kougar.” We’ve missed your voice! Not many people know about the other projects you’ve been involved in besides Witch Mountain. How does it feel to be collaborating with the ruffians of Blackwitch Pudding?
I’m afraid you have me mistaken for someone else. I just got into town on my sub-sonic transporter two earth months ago which is for me just three of your human heart beats. However, I accept your positive acknowledgements and will say this about the space wizards: they know how to party.
Soul Wizard is the perfect name, because it really grabs the heart of your vocal style and the strong emotional tug people get from listening to your work throughout the years. I’m curious, how did all of this special brew bubbled up to begin with - did the most revered wizards approach you or did you cast a spell and beckon them thither?
Lizard Wizard and I go way back. We used to shoot womprats together on my home planet. I hadn’t heard from him for a while when he sent me BWP’s first album, I played it on my radio show back in Jakan and now they’re HUGE in Jakan. When they asked me to travel 50,000 keejams to do some guest vocals I was honored. I’m afraid I can’t stay long though. Responsibilities at home you know - muckfusking and bjrkling.

Well, we love the new EP and are curious to know what you have brewing in that creative mind of yours for the future, either with Aranya, collaborations with other musicians, or solo work?
You must be talking about this other person. Lizard Wizard tells me he’s in a new project with her called Inverted Crosses and they’ll be recording next month. Hope that’s helpful.
Damn! Sorry, I’m finding that when it comes to Blackwitch Pudding, I’m always caught in a transdimensional mind fuck. I found both tracks to be just, well, fun. So how fun was it to write them, and was this a collaborative deal or all Soul Wizard?
We had some riffs laying around, but no words, and we never had that ‘shit your pants, this is it’ kinda feeling about them, so instead of putting in hard work and finishing the songs, we decided to find someone else to do that for us and went straight to the top of the galactic charts, Soul Wizard. We greased the wheels by promising to crush her enemies, see them driven before her, and to broadcast the lamentations of their women through the airwaves. Who wouldn’t go for that?
You and your new mates performed in early February, joined by Ice Princess, and Dry Heathen at the Know in Portland. Do you have more live shows planned? I’ve got to see you! Of course, fans will be wanting to know, will you all be taking the show on the road?
We will be having our release show for the EP on Friday April 29th, at The World Famous Kenton Club in North Portland. Joining us once again will be our witchitanic comrades in Ice Princess, as well as some young ritualistic heathens by the name of Hound the Wolves. Soul Wizard will be there to perform her tracks, and BWP will round out the set with as much new material from the upcoming LP as we can. Look for a west coast run in September, the weed everywhere else has got to get better before we venture farther….. Just kidding, we are working on getting the next full length record recorded, so we can’t blow all our juice on a full tour just yet. (Seriously though, we expect some dank shit out there…)
Soul Wizard, Space Wizard, Lizard Wizard, Wizard Wizard, and Lazer Wizard release both songs on a 10" vinyl 45 two weeks from now, on April 15th. You can pre-order it here.
