So we’ve had our first Bad Night of bladder training/intermittent catheterisation. Went to bed at 1amish, been up SIX TIMES to pee since then, and up four times for pain relief and anti spasm meds. We’re both knackered. Look who’s up and dressed in actual clothes for the first time post catheter removal... also, look who’s WEARING TIGHTS!!! First time in 13 years I’m tube free. It’s both incredibly unsettling, And unbelievably freeing. Seems ridiculous to feel emotional over something as simple as wearing tights, but I am. It’s the first of many firsts that will happen over the next few days and weeks... and the first item crossed off my Easter Bucket List! The list is mostly about doing things I couldn’t do with tubes in me. So in all the chaos I actually forgot I had this photo; this is Team Lets Get That Indwelling Catheter Out And Get Amy-claire Peeing!! It’s me, my amazing mum @caroline.davies350 and the absolutely incredible nurse, who spent most of the day getting us comfortable and on track with bladder training, intermittent catheterisation, and peeing in general. She was incredibly patient, kind and understanding. When I’d had my tube out and actually managed to pass some urine naturally (thanks to the Botox in my bladder) I got really emotional and had a little cry 😭. It was just such a big moment; the first time in 13 years that I didn’t have a tube in my body! The nurse herself actually had a cry when we were leaving and we had a team high five and hug... she said we were inspiring and amazing 😭❤️ I am forever and always an advocate for how incredible the NHS is; especially the people they employ. We couldn’t have done this without this incredible nurse getting us stared.
