So yesterday (and tbh, today) I was feeling rather sorry for myself. I’ve got three separate skin conditions flaring up, and they’re covering me from head to toe, they’re all painful, and they make a girl feel less sexy than a bag of spuds. After seeing the GP I had to go to Wound Care Clinic... going to Wound Care Clinic always makes me happy. Yup, you read that right! Now, I’m not enjoying Wound Care Clinic itself, because I’m not a total weirdo... I enjoy it because of the amazing lady who runs it, the incredible specialist nurse Caroline. Caroline is literally one of my most favourite people. She is everything a good nurse should be; kind, caring, funny, patient, and she’s able to educate her patients without belittling or condescending to them. Whenever Caroline asks me how I am, I know she genuinely means it. I think she could tell I was feeling a bit down yesterday, because she was especially kind. She introduced three new steps to my skincare regiment that will hopefully help my catheter site stay in tip top condition (although that now takes the total number of prescription creams/washes I have to use daily to 8!), and when she asked how I’d been taught to clean my catheter site, she took into account the fact that I’d been educated 8 years ago, so probably wasn’t up to speed. When we discussed my latest bought of renal sepsis, she told me “oh, renal sepsis again, she says, just like that! Do you know what an unusual person you are? You’re just so casual about being so poorly... I think you’re a bloody miracle!”. She also told me “every time I see your name on my list, I’m happy. Not because you’re ill of course, but because every time I see you, you brighten up my day, literally and metaphorically!”. Basically, I like Caroline because she is kind. For all the nurses out there, please don’t underestimate the impact you have on your patients lives. Those 15 minutes in Wound Care Clinic May seem like nothing to you, but they could mean the world to your patient. #nursesareamazing #nursesareawesome #nurseareangels #nursesaresuperheroes #nursesarethebest #neverunderestimatethepowerofkindness https://www.instagram.com/p/BpkvfmaBN8W/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1v89vykf6uxn8
