Because I Love You | Scud Frohmeyer x Fem!Reader

A/N: Happy Scud Saturday!

With a low, agonizing groan, you rolled over in bed for the hundredth time that night. No matter what position you placed your body in, you just could not get comfortable. You had even resorted to the fetal position in the hopes of relieving even just the slightest bit of the pain in your abdomen, but to no avail.

Your period was in full swing, and your uterus was punishing you for yet again refusing to get pregnant.

When you turned around again, you felt a stirring beside you. “Babe? What’s wrong?” the groggy, sleep-filled voice of your boyfriend rung out through the dark, quiet room.

You mentally kicked yourself for being so restless. Because of you, Scud was awake, and you knew how desperately he needed the sleep. Blade had been pushing him to his limit non-stop for the past few days, and Scud had been forced to stay awake to complete an invention way into the early hours of the morning. That night was the first night in a week that Scud had been permitted to go to bed early, and of course your stupid period had to come around and ruin it.

You turned around to face him, a small, albeit strained smile on your face. “I’m sorry, Josh. I didn’t mean to wake you up,” you apologized sincerely.

Scud yawned and brought his hands up to his face, using his palms to wipe the remnants of sleep from his eyes. “S’alright,” he mumbled. When his vision was cleared, he looked back at you, his eyebrows furrowing in concern when you let out a quiet hiss. “What’s wrong, Baby?”

You shook your head and sent him—what you hoped was—a reassuring smile. “Nothing. I’m fine. Go back to sleep, okay? You need the rest.”

It was Scud’s turn to shake his head. The inventor slightly pushed himself up onto his elbows, his cerulean eyes staring down at you as he attempted to decipher what had you in obvious discomfort. With one glance down at your stomach, he saw the way you were subtly clutching it, and realization dawned on him.

“Oh,” he began, his gaze turning more sympathetic. “Your sharkweek began, huh?”

You sighed and nodded. There was no point in lying to Scud now. “Yeah,” you mumbled out weakly. “It started about an hour ago. I saw it when I got up to go to the bathroom. I didn’t think the pain would be this bad, though. I thought I could handle it.” You took a deep breath before continuing. “I’m so sorry I woke you. I didn’t mean to.”

Scud sent you a reassuring smile. “It’s fine, Baby. I don’t mind. ‘Sides, I’d hate for my girl to suffer in silence when I could be helpin’ out.” With that, he threw the sheets aside and pushed himself up from the bed. He stretched his body, his bare back on display for your view, before beginning to stalk towards the bedroom door.

You frowned and sat up. “Where are you going?” you called out to him before he could open the door.

Scud turned his head to look back at you. He sent you a smile, his eyes sparkling in the dim glow of the moonlight that fluttered in through the window. “M’just gonna get a few things for you. I’ll be right back.”

Before you could protest, your boyfriend closed the door behind him. You sighed and shook your head, although you could not deny how loved you felt at his actions. You turned and flicked on the bedside lamp, fully illuminating the room.

True to his words, he did not take long at all. In a mere fifteen minutes, Scud was back, carrying a cup in one hand, a hot water bottle in the other, and a bar of chocolate—still in the wrapper—between his teeth. He walked over to your side and placed the cup down on the nightstand, before handing you the hot water bottle and the bar of chocolate.

“Here ya go, m’lady,” he said, playfully bowing. He smiled at the giggle you let out at his theatrics, and moved over to his side of the bed. He got in under the sheets, before grabbing his watch from his nightstand and checking the time. “Huh. Didn’t expect to be productive at three in the mornin’, but here I am.”

“I’m so sorry, Josh,” you immediately apologised. “I didn’t—”

“It’s okay,” Scud cut you off with a light chuckle. He took one of your hands in his, giving it a reassuring squeeze. “You didn’t ask me to do this. I wanted to. God only knows how many times you’ve waited on me when I was sick. I’m a damn baby when I’m sick.” When you laughed at his words, he smiled, before continuing. “I did this because I love ya. You don’t have to feel bad about it, okay?”

You slowly nodded, and leaned forward to capture Scud in a hug. He instantly reciprocated the action, pressing a soft kiss to the top of your head.

“I love you, Josh,” you murmured into his chest.

“And I love you, my sweet girl.” A few beats of silence passed, until Scud spoke up again. “Y’know, if all else fails, you know I don’t mind a little blood...”

You laughed and pushed Scud away. “You’re insufferable.”

“Yeah, and yet you love me.”

Scud Frohmeyer was normally the most laid-back of laid-back guys. Whether it was with a joint in his hand or the putting his skills to use for Blade, there were few things that got him worked up. Calm, cool, collected—a perfectly-crafted string of alliteration that accurately captured the inventor’s demeanor.

But when you waltzed into the workshop, arms folded over your chest and a delighted smirk on your face, to say he was caught by surprise would be an understatement. He nearly fell out of his chair at the sound of your voice, your soft but slightly sarcastic “hi there” as Blade introduced you sending his heart straight into his throat.

You worked together for the day, both of you feigning ignorance that you two were already well acquainted. However, when evening came & the dark knight stepped out for a bit, Scud took the opportunity to corner you for an interrogation of sorts.

You were backed against the wall, his piercing blue eyes locked on yours. His arms trapped you on both sides to ensure you wouldn’t escape.

Not that you would have tried to anyway.

As you eyed him up and down, you propped your foot against the wall, arms folded over your chest once again as you leaned back, stifling an amused chuckle. You tapped your other foot, the one with your familiar tattoo on the bottom, on the floor. For a few moments, the only sounds that echoed off the workshop walls were your breathing, your boot, and the faint dripping of water somewhere in the dark.

“The hell are you doin’ here, Y/N?” His tone was a cocktail of flustered and frantic, breaking through the quiet, but not quite echoing to where any prying ears would hear. Even though you two were alone, he still exercised caution with his volume.

“Guess daddy dearest didn’t think you could pull this off all on your own,” you mused, pretending to check over the polish on your nails before meeting his gaze again. That subtle smirk from earlier in the day broke out, bigger this time. “Sent his favorite to help with the job.”

He kept his voice low, leaning in closer, his face merely inches from yours. “You say a word to B—“

“Oh, so you have a nickname for him? It’s almost like you care,” you interjected, your statement booming in comparison to his. The laugh that followed awoke the butterflies in his stomach, sending them into a tizzy.

He’d always been enraptured by your beauty, too nervous to make a move on account of you being the elder’s daughter. Instead, he settled for close proximity, doing his best to make small talk any chance the two of you were occupying the same space.

But it wasn’t just your beauty that captured him. You were feisty, brilliant, and had quite the attitude. And he loved it.

This was different, though. He had a job to do, and as far as he was concerned, you were impeding on it, potentially even a liability, your status as the vampire lord’s daughter be damned.

Little did he know, you shared the same sentiment. On both accounts.

“What makes you think I would say anything?” The sass that laced your words hung heavy in the air as you continued. “We’re on the same side. I won’t say anything if you won’t.” You paused for a brief moment, fluttering your lashes as you dropped your gaze briefly to the floor and back at him. “Josh.”

His stomach nearly fell out of his body, and he unconsciously gripped at his abdomen. It wasn’t the use of his real name that was affecting him. Oh no, it was because you said it. But you didn’t just say it. You spoke it like it was the sweetest thing in the world, the simple name slipping off your lips like honeyed words.

The tension between you was thick enough to be cut with a knife. What type of tension that was…was up for debate.

Pushing himself off the wall, he spun around, his jacket grazing the side of your jeans. You watched as he sauntered off, taking a pack of smokes from his pocket and lighting one. He looked back over his shoulder at you for a split second, long enough to catch you wiggling your fingers in a flirtatious wave.

“This is going to be an eventual few weeks,” you said to yourself, sighing and leaning against the wall again.

There were many words you would use to describe those next few weeks, and eventful was certainly one of them.

— Another normal morning at the workshop, you sat on one of the chair sighing to yourself, there's really nothing better to do than to stitch-up the ripped up fabric from last night's mission.

You were new here, just a few weeks ago you were recruited by blade after helping him with a mission that night,

The first day was great, you were introduced to whisperer and a guy named stud or scud something? Weird nickname so you called him josh for a while

'Fuck'

You winced as you accidentally poked your finger with the needle, blood flowing out forming a dot.

You looked around for a tissue but slumped down as you found none, sighing again you took your fingers to your mouth and sucked on the wound

Shivers came down to your spines when you felt a pare of eyes burning into your skin

"Okay man, you're creeping me out"

You looked over your shoulder, his body looked tense licking his dried lips as he redirected his gaze back onto whatever he had on his desk

"sorry" he whispered

After cleaning the string and needles you walked over to him

"so scud right?", he nodded a little "mhm?"

"Whatcha making there? so you're like uhh blade's little helper or something?"

You asked staring at the gear on his hand,

"well.. you could say that, and this thing right here is a bomb i made for B, I customized it so it can shoot uv-rays" his body tense as he explained eyes avoiding your gaze

"impressive" you muttered, the air thick and awkward

It's not that you're not getting along with him, it's just you hadn't had the time to actually get to know him you've been busy going around on missions

But you'd have to admit on how attractive this 'scud' was, he was young and skilled in what he's doing, and you've seen the scar on his stomach multiple times, it was something..

Scud's attention went to your finger blood still pooling around the dot,

"you good? want me to take care of that?" scud asked still avoiding your gaze,

"nah m'good ain't no Disney princess" you chuckled a bit, your heart leaped knowing he noticed

If scud could be honest, from the moment he was introduced to you, he thought you were the prettiest girl he'd seen, the way your eyes sparkle, your gorgeous features, the way that dress hugged your body perfectly, the smell of you sweet blood, you were perfect.

Any other vampire would kill to get a taste of you including him, so it had been hard for him to control himself to not hover you right there and kissed you hungrily

"Scud? you okay?" you blinked

Then all of the sudden you felt his lips pressed against yours, stunned by the sudden movement you froze

'what the fuck' spiralling your head like crazy

But then you slowly closed your eyes as he rests his hand at the side of your face deepening the kiss

Just when things get hotter--

"f-fuck, m'sorry"

He pulled away whispering, his face red and out of breath, scud panicked realizing what he had done, you stood still and looked at his mortified expression, oh how cute he looked.

"what're you sorry for?" you raised a brow and chuckled

"Ya'know you're the most hottest girl I've ever kissed.."

Oh?

"n-not that I've ever kissed other girls" he blurted out avoiding your gaze

"is that a confession?" you asked holding back a smile--

"sorta, i know it's too early to tell and i-" you caught him of with a small peck on his lips

"y'know you're one of the most weirdest guy I've ever met"

As his hands tangled in yours, he picked up your fingers then proceeded to lick the blood oozing out of the wound, you were confused

"wait you're a vampire--?"

'shit' he muttered

"mhm.." he nodded slowly, your brain still processing the sudden news, as the air became thick and quiet

"well you don't like me anymore?" he whispered looking away

"You're not only weird but silly" you leaned in pressing your lips again with his, the kiss was slow and passionate until he grabs your hips with one hand and picks you up

"hold on princess"

Using his other free hand swipes all the gear and sits you on top of his desk kissing you harder, as things were getting heated your hands snake to his back pulling his jacket off

His lips placed wet kisses all the way from your lips to your jaw

"been wanting to do this for so long, you're s-so perfect" he spoke in between kisses, all the heat erupting from your body as you whined

"J-josh--"

'Ehem!'

You both turned your head as fast as lightning towards the sound and froze, gasping and hands still all over each other

"Can you guys at least get a room, Jesus Christ",

Whisperer emerged from the darkness with a cup of coffee on his hands
