WHERE  FINGERTIPS  ARE  LACED  THROUGH THICK  BRONZE  WAVES, they  halt  realizing too  late  he’s  touched  and  marred  an  intricately  crafted art  piece  that does  not  belong to  him.  running his  hands  through his  hair  is  habitual  when he’s  stressed,  like pacing  madly  the length  of  the  room  as  a  caged  animal—  he  hadn’t  even  thought  of  it,  nor  that  harley had  spent  way too  fucking  long  working  it  like  clay  into  the  perfect  tribute to  ocean  waves  tousled  across his  face.  they  are  pristinely perfect,  like  every  other  spotless millimeter  of  his  cleaned,  moisturized, and  robed  body.  it  is  vastly  more  infuriating  however  that  he  must  be  a  flawlessly  crafted creation,  carved  away  of  any  human  bits  and  replaced with  an  idyllic image,  a  sex symbol,  not  a  person.  he  must  sit  still  and  behave,  close his  mouth  and  tilt  his  head  this  way,  move  his  limbs  as  he  is  requested, as  he  is  adjusted,  and  they  examine the  body  belonging to  a  thousand pairs  of  hands  that  are  not  his  own.  he  throws  his  hands  out  in  front  of  him,  his  mask  broken  through with  an  expression of  deep  annoyance.

“  come  on!  am  I  not  even  allowed  to  breathe?  I’ve been  here  all  day,  what could  you  possibly  still  be  working on?  ”

a  huff  of exasperation,  and  he  places  his  hands  on  either  side  and  leans  back  onto  them,  fingertips curling  to  scratch against  the  metal  table.  sitting still  and  silent with  nothing  to distract  himself  from  the  touch  flooding  his golden  skin,  prepping it  for  lusting gazes  peeling  back  the  thin  layer  of  clothing  provided, reminding  him  that soon,  very  soon,  they  will  be  free  to  do  more  than  merely  look. he  could  scream into  his  hands  and  throw  his  palms  over  his  ears.

PLUSH   LIPS   PULL   AWAY,   pursing   together   as   the   taste   of   fragrance   lingered.   rolling   blue   hues,   an   infectious   laughter   escaping   at   the   phrase.   (   OH   HOW   IT   FELT   TO   FEEL   GENUINELY   HAPPY.   )   a   quick   peck   before   rolling   out   from   beneath   silky   black  sheets,   walking   to   the   vanity   and   applying   glossy   lip   balm.   even   with   a   plain   face,   messy   hair,   and   a   baggy   shirt   covering   her   figure,   appearance   was   still   crucial.   “   have   you   looked   in   the   mirror?   we’re   hot   to   begin   with;   our   personalities   are   just   an   added   bonus.   ”   hopping   back   onto   the   bed,   straddling   the   blonde,   fingers   intertwining,   smiling   ever   so   brightly,   “   so   i   was   thinking...   ”   never   a   good   sign   with   this   one.   “   since   josie   is   with   our   mom   and   my   dad   is   playing   hero   with   hope   for   the   weekend   and   technically   there’s   no   real   supervision.   what   if   we   threw   a   foam   party   for   the   school   and   locals?   ”   PARTY   GIRL   LIZZIE,   always   looking   for   the   thrill   of   drunken   antics.   “   we   get   to   mess   with   the   townies,   be   drinking   while   relaxing   in   bikinis,   and   show   off   just   how   cute   we   are.   you   never   know   what   else   the   night   entails,   baby.   what   do   you   say?   ———   wanna   cause   some   trouble?   ”

how can she say that?  how can she have the strength and the peace to say that, with all that’s happened?  with how she loses finnick?  it isn’t peaceful or easy the way he dies;  gale knows and is there, and he hears and sees and feels the agony and the heat.  annie cresta is stronger than him, he realizes, because he still can’t say or imagine such a thing about his father dying  —  about anybody he loves dying.    “ look, i know we don’t know each other that well, ”    he offers quietly, where, though they’re surrounded by mourners and others at this makeshift funeral for their losses, nobody else but annie can hear him.    “ but if you need anything  —  whatever you need?  you let me know, okay? ”    she’ll be alone, mags and finnick both gone, and she’s pregnant  —  where’s the fairness in that?
