♫ Blamstrain - Linja
"Turn Back" - Blamstrain
Kinda old but I'm a sucker for awesome songs slapped over this scene.
What's your forgotten classic?.....here's mine for FACT magazine http://www.factmag.com/2014/04/17/forgotten-classics-blamstrains-blamstrain-remixed/
My new full-length album "For All The Dreamers In" is out now after four years of hard work! It's my best and proudest work, full of love, heartwarming melodies, intricate harmonies and ass-blasting beats, very reminiscent of the 90s electronica from Future Sound of London, Orbital etc, but having a total 2014 edge to it. Be sure to grab a copy here: http://store.blamstra.in

EVOLUTION OF "MAGIC" MIX FROM VARIA'S "MAGIC + OMEGA" (2011) Full album available here for FREE: http://store.varia.tv/album/magic-omega The "Magic" mix (done with @1in10 as @Varia) started out as an ordinary demo tape mix done in half an hour. A lot of the Varia tracks (of which there are probably thousands by now thanks to the ever productive 1in10) are sketches, and the mixes I did back then, meant as a caricature, tried to retain the feel of quick, hurried, cobbled together "post-modern" art. The second sketch mix (done in late 2009/early 2010) took its influence from raw 90s hiphop mixes where the fader would just be slammed from one side to another (or channels toggled on and off), and also sometimes these mixes would feature a few film samples here and there. This sketch laid the groundwork for the next iteration as we discovered weaving the film samples together with the music would give a really good effect when done right - here it still is very loose and incoherent as it was more fun to stick more samples in rather than take non-working ones out.. The third time around we laid down the 10 first minutes of the mix almost flat out like it is in the final version. Cuts were made and this version contains a few other songs that didn't go on the final. The big "worthless" breakdown makes a first appearance in this version and gets to stay till the end - it is one of the key points in the mix when first our influences are spread out during the first 10 minutes and then it gets "too technical", lashing out violently at the implied maker to get back to the idea of abandoning the vast yet ultimately senseless energy. Focus gets shifted with the “Are you OK?” sample afterwards to bring tension down and take the listener to another energetic episode, which was cut as it wasn't fitting in with the vision of the mix being more of a melting hot pot of sound from the past decades of popular music, rather than a spectacle of remixes of big hits. The final mix took about two weeks to complete. Compared to the earlier sketch the beginning of the mix gets a much more smooth treatment which then follows the mix everywhere. A lot of the raw edges have been smoothed out to blend the different tracks and styles together. There's a lot more theatrical effects like bass boosts, hits and such, including the climax of a several minutes of a police chase in the background of one song. The film samples meld in with the music more.
