10/22/2016 – The Hangar Bay
I’m in a futuristic corridor looks like something out of a Star Wars movie. Every surface is polished, even the large blast door that blocks my way. I feel around on my belt loop, and my right hand grabs something that feels cold and metallic.
It sounds silly, but it was a lightsaber! I can’t find a way to unlock the door, so I turn on the lightsaber (and hear the characteristic WOOM noise) and start to slowly slice a circle. The blue blade penetrates the blast door, and I can see the metal liquefy and turn red-hot. However, as I try to trace the circle, the gouges in the blast door seem to reseal. Not this way, I guess.
Moving further down the hall, I try the same technique on a smaller, thinner door. It works! I make a circle big enough for me to make an exit. I try to be careful, but a piece of molten metal drops onto my bare foot. It tingles a bit, but, surprisingly, it doesn’t hurt. I shake it off, and move into a hangar bay designed for small spaceships.
In my line of sight, I see a futuristic one-person ship and a large exit leading out to a dusty, red planet. I realize that I’m not going to escape if my ship is weighed down, so I start emptying the small ship of books and other things that I could live without.
