AUGUSTUS “GUS” AMADO is a 42 year old BISEXUAL CIS-MALE that was born on MAY 22ND. HE lives in QUEENS, but he’s originally from NEW YORK CITY. Gus was born and raised in New York City in a traditional Jewish family. His mom and dad worked hard for their money and Gus was quick to get a job at a young age, helping run the family deli for a small amount of money. While his father expected him to take over the business, his mother knew he wanted to go off and explore and do more. It was surprising to her when Gus started college at NYU, for biology with a minor in law. Not sure if he wanted to become a lawyer or go into the police field, Gus worked part-time for his parents, helped raise his younger siblings, and went to college. While he did struggle at first, he soon figured out what he truly wanted and began looking into law apprenticeships.
He went on to work in a variety of places, gaining experience in both law and police training. Gus let his work consume him- he focused on it more than anything, having no real-life balance. Between the deli, apprenticeships, and other part-time jobs he took in other locations, he had no free time for dating or making friends. Gus was a true loner. Only when he finally turned down his parents’ offer of becoming a full manager at the deli did he start to have free time, at the expense of his parents’ disappointed faces.
Soon Gus was looking into further programming. He didn’t tell anyone what he truly wanted, too afraid he wouldn’t get it- but eventually, Gus was admitted into FBI academy training and began working on the force. While his family relationship was still strained, he finally began making friends, and just as importantly, dating.
Gus met Graham on a partnered case of drug trafficking- the other agent was partially Deaf and wore a hearing aid, and Gus learned key ASL from him that drastically helped communicate with this new partner. It also helped in situations where they had to be very quiet, or unassuming, or even take on false identities. It was very easy for Gus to become the ‘interpreter’ or for Graham to appear incapable when he was ‘relying’ on Gus for translation. However, that was never the case, and both worked seamlessly together and even preferred being partnered on cases. Soon enough, they were dating on top of it all.
Gus and Graham were together for years. They moved into an apartment together, and Graham’s little chihuahua Chelle came with. But everything changed on a sex trafficking case. Graham was shot point blank while both were in a hostage situation, while Gus was forced to watch. Gus came out alive, but after months of trying to continue his job, he just couldn’t. Gus retired from the FBI, occasionally aiding with computer work but nothing else. Eventually he got a position as a forensics teacher at a college where he’d done undercover work before, but it hasn’t been the same since. Gus has PTSD from his time as an agent, especially that last case, and he sees a therapist. He’s kept Chelle and their apartment almost exactly as it was. It’s been a little over 2 years since Graham died. Gus is TRYING to slowly, slowly move on.
