Wait has anybody else tried to drive those new type BLDC/three phase AC ceiling fan motors off a controller besides the one that came with the fan originally??
It looks like it just rectifies the 120vac into ~160vdc and schlorps it out onto the three phases in some sort of trapezoidal or sinusoidal pattern with standard back-EMF direction and speed sensing like other hall-less setups, right?
Im having a hard time on AliExpress or similar finding a cheap (CHEAP!) controller that fits into those criteria tho:
-160vdc input (like 40s lithium) OR 120VAC input
~160v three phase hall-less output
CRUCIALLY (the reason why I want an aftermarket controller) continuously variable by potentiometer or similar down to very slow speeds (much slower than the factory controller "low")
-Low peak current like even 2A is probably sufficient -- this one is always the cost killer. (As soon as you get into voltages like this every manufacturer thinks you need 2HP for like a lathe or 5000+W for a go kart.) Hell even the 350w aftermarket controller in my hackjob lawn mower would be just fine if it was built to drive motors with windings for higher voltage situations, but it only goes up to 36v nominal (10s lithium)
Any advice?
So far I've picked up a 80v nominal maximum 85v absolute maximum BLDC controller with DC input for some bench testing l, to see how "happy" the fan motor sounds on half voltage. I know it'll have ~quarter power, but since I want it to go slower anyways, maybe 1/4 power at full blast will be enough 🤷♀️ next problem to solve on this bench test is where to find a decent cheap/free source of ~80vdc...
