Bleach 516: The Squad Zero

AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Yet again this pretty much sums um Bleach this week. Who else just wanted 1 more page.

Bleach 516: Zero Squad.

I thought the Zero Squad was meant to look more...badass.

I honestly wasn’t expecting anything in particular to happen this week— I mean, Kubo could have had another chapter set in Soul Society (which he did), he could have finally gone back to Hueco Mundo, we could have gone to Quincy HQ… Hell, it could have even been set in Karakura Town and it probably would still have fit in just fine timing-wise.

What I was NOT expecting from Bleach this week though? A chapter of One Piece.

**Disclaimer #1: This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, cause I fucking love One Piece. It was just… different.

**Disclaimer #2: It will become a bad thing if turns out that the solution to fixing everyone’s powers is eating the Bankai-Bankai Fruit. I swear on Aizen’s bitch-curl that I will literally punch someone in the face if that happens.

Bleach Chapter 516 Review

So start with a view of all these white pillars. Someone says “Alright then... everyone’s finally gathered… Officers”

And it shows the back of a captain’s coat and instead of the numbers we are normally used to seeing, the pattern has four flowers on it.

Switching to the 12th Squad Ichigo is flustered because of his broken Zanpakuto asking about Mayuri already once fixing his sword. Mayuri retorts “No I didn't repair it I modified it.”

And so we get a long detailed explanation about Zanpakuto. In short, Mayuri tells Ichigo that in order to fix a Zanpakuo all you need to do is pour reishi and reiatsu into the Zanpakuto. However that only works if the sword broke in it’s shikai state. It is impossible to return a Bankai to it’s former state. However there are two exceptions. Komamura who is so closely linked to his bankai that if he is healed, the bankai will be as well. Another exception is Ikkaku; Akon kept it from falling apart. To which Ichigo questions that Ikkaku had a Bankai and Mayuri basically goes “whoops”.

Way to go Mayuri, that was like a 400 chapter secret out the window. But, and I’m usually wrong about these things 90% of the time, but I bet that’s foreshadowing. I bet everyone learns about Ikkaku’s bankai or his Bankai is brought up again later. I dunno just a thought.

So Ichigo asks about Renji’s Bankai and Mayuri asks Renji’s blades on his sword have remained broken since the encounter with Byakuya Kuchiki. Ichigo is about to ask what he should do but…

Okay here we go. Remember when everyone was asking where the HELL Kon was? Well yeah, nice little present from Kubo. Steroid Kon comes in and just causes complete chaos. At first Ichigo doesn’t recognize him but Kon complains and well, just brings some comedic relief back into the manga. Mayuri stops the chaos by turning Kon back into his stuffed animal form.

Mayuri gets a call in his… head. I’m honestly not surprised with anything Mayuri does anymore to be honest. But he says although he isn’t pleased by it Ichigo should probably meet them.

Chapter title: The Squad Zero. Or whatever chapter translation you have.

So the not-in-coma captains are gathered outside the wall. Ichigo calls out to Shinji who asks if Ichigo is sight seeing and there isn’t anything here that is worth his time.

I’m kinda getting the feeling that the regular Squad Captains might not really like the Zero Squad. And hell there could be tons of reasons for that. For one, apparently their standards for what a crisis situation is are extremely high.

Ichigo continues to question about the Zero Squad and where they normally are. Kyoraku comes in and says they are in the Royal Palace with the Spirit King. He says the wall they stand before now is only meant to be used during emergencies like when Ichigo first went the Soul Society. So Kyoraku ends with “If it’s to be used only in cases of emergency, what was it originally protecting?” And he kinda leaves off there. So a giant pillar called the Tenchuuren, meaning heavenly pillars, comes crashing down. Apparently it’s the preferred method of transportation for the Zero Squad and everyone is inside. There aren’t any soldiers in the Zero Squad but only five members in which the term “captain” doesn’t do them justice. The five of them combined are stronger than all of the Gotei 13 put together.

And finally, finally, FINALLY. WE GET THEIR FACES. I honestly did not think Kubo would give us their faces. I thought for sure that we were going to be left with their backs or silhouettes or something.

I present to you THE ZERO SQUAD.

Fat woman, Pompadour, Gimli, Sexy woman, and Love’s brother. Also known as Love 2.0

And that ends this fantastic chapter.

So yeah not really much more to say there…

Glad they showed the faces of the zero squad. Next chapter... I don't know. More Zero Squad. Some expositions/explanations. Maybe a flash to what Juha is up to? I doubt that one will happen though.

Bleach 516

WHAT A CHAPTER.

We get a whole bunch of sweet lore from Mayuri, AND my two favorite characters (Kyouraku and Shinji) got loads of face time, and have been these last few weeks.

Despite last weeks trollmageddon, I fucking love this new arc.

Last week's chapter really ruined a lot for me though.

Whatever, I'll try not to let it spoil this entire arc for me, but it's really hard knowing how much of a waste of time all those shots of Byakuya epicly falling down were. AND his FUCKING MONOLOGUE THAT WAS SO PERFECT AND BEAUTIFUL LIKE ok yea he's still alive, gotcha, that was all literally for nothing and we all just got jerked around.

I'm still so fucking pissed Byakuya didn't die that it's leaking into my 516 blurb.

WhatEVER. Maybe in the end, this won't mean that much, and actually mean something later that contributes to the arc being amazing...

But I don't know. Still pissed.

Maybe someone will die some day when they get beaten to a bloody stump.

Sigh.

I can only hope.
