I find Viz translations to tend to range from awkward to bizarre (Demon spells anyone? When that word was obviously not supposed to be 'demon'?), like they employed a bunch of people who didn't realise that maybe they should translate idiomatic phrases non-literally. Feminine hygiene product does take the cake though :P personally, I thought 観音開紅姫改メ (hope Tumblr doesn't delete the kanji) was something like 'to open doors of opportunity', which would tie in nicely with Kisuke's special war power.

I looove that translation. It fits with his shikai as well honestly. I mean the only theme you can really see with it is that it is adaptable. He seems to be able to counter things very well. UGH I CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS CHAPTER.

Viz 664 translation

So according to someone on the BA forum, Viz translated Kisuke’s bankai as:

Opened Red Princess Neo

.... So does... does calling out Benihime allow Kisuke to see the matrix or something? xD;;;;  AWWW SHIIIIT, HE’S ABOUT TO GO LATE 90s ON ASKIN’S ASS.

P.S.  Remember how Neo went blind in Revolutions?  Just sayin’

P.P.S.  Okay, seriously this time xD;;; I guess they translated 改メ (aratame) as new or renewed?  My dictionary here says it can also be revised, changed. *shrugs*  It’s an odd way to translate it, but I kinda like it?

real talk.

last week’s chapter was pretty disappointing - i honestly had the hope that after going through pages and pages of ass (literally) we were gonna at least gonna be rewarded with Yoruichi finally finishing Askin once and for all.

BUT NOOOOoooooOOOOOooooo

Askin has to cosplay a human atom in order to gain extra power and blah blah blah, it was all stupid - BUT I HELD HOPE THAT YORUICHI WOULD MAKE HER COMEBACK.

this chapter, after an extremely boring one-sided conversation about everything Askin can do and will do, and his views on mass genocide, we finally get a moment of peace only to see Kisuke’s eye fucking explode after a piercing gone horribly wrong. (is he gonna wear a patch now, too?)

oh, and Yoruichi seems to be completely out of the picture at this point. seeing as she turned into a literal thunder cat, the cat side of her seemed to have completely taken over, not to mention she was knocked out after Askin’s transformation, rendering her completely ineffective in this fight. i honestly thought this was gonna be her time to shine, but nah, Kubo had other plans (one of which involved showing her ass everywhere - something i was willing to overlook if she actually beat Askin to a pulp).

so let me tell you, this chapter left me torn because, yes, i’m fucking excited to finally see Kisuke’s bankai after all of these years of waiting BUT i also really wanted to see Yoruichi kick ass and take names so fucking bad.

i didn’t want Yoruichi’s spotlight to be taken over by Urahara. if anything, i hoped that they worked together to defeat the bad guy, but not replace each other in the fight, and that’s what seems to be going on here. this has happened to many times before and it just frustrates me.

so there. i’m a mix of excitement and frustration over Kisuke’s bankai. excitement will probably win if he ends up kicking ass, but i’ll be salty until then. however, there’s always a big chance that next week’s chapter won’t be about Kisuke’s bankai but a different fight instead - after all, there’s a ton of other fights going on right now, and i’m sure we’re all aware of how much Kubo loves cliffhangers.

Yo, random quiet follower piping up here, I'm a huge Urahara fan and am loving your analysis! Feel free to ignore me, but I had a thought about what the expression on Kisuke's face might be in that last panel. It kind of reminds me of the expression on his face when he was fighting Ichigo? Except without the grin. So, you know, bloodlust or whatever, mixed with seriousness at the dire situation. As opposed to hilarity at Ichigo's reactions.

It could be *nods* For the time being, Kisuke’s face is far too small in that last panel to be able to judge.  Some people have even suggested he might be afraid of Benihime, or whatever it is he is about to unleash.  

Going by the expression on the panel that precedes it (right before he says Bankai), he’s probably more on the determined spectrum. Hell, I’ll even say angry; he definitely has a lot to be pissed about: Askin hurt Yuushirou and Yoruichi badly, he just TOOK HIS EYE OUT, and he even dared suggest Kisuke follow Juha’s lead.  RUDE.
