Shoreline stumps at Lake Cushman, pt.1
Warmth
Sun on the sand. You walk through the desert. Endless dunes that roll and crash like waves and a harsh blistering wind to roll them. Each step upon the grains is like a brand, for above that fiery spirit looks upon the face of the earth will all the light he can muster, and all the distance the world can bear. You have been so cold, for so long, that the warmth of the desert is a relief. No matter that the soles of your feet burn on the sand, no matter that your clothes are soaked in sweat. It is blessed relief to once again feel warm. Cast off your clothes, dance naked across the desert. Your skin will be burned a rosy red with light. At last you cast yourself down, basking in the rays.
You don’t feel the cold of night when it comes, for the sun’s radiant heat is still with you. But you welcome the dawning morning light. You think...”I could sleep here forever. Warm in the sun. Yes. Forever.” Dreaming gently, warm. Bleached bones dreaming on the sand.

To elaborate, I’d like to introduce you to my father.
In 1965, Martin Luther King Jr. visited Jamaica, where Marcus Garvey is enshrined as the country’s first national…
