i’m excited for naclyoho! a tip for others like me (who cannot listen to podcasts because i space out and wind up missing everything): records, cassette tapes, and cds are GREAT for cleaning, in my experience. playlists can be looped or be incredibly long, and streaming can go on forever, but a record/tape/cd has a set amount of time before you have to flip it/change it. having to stop doing a task in order to attend to that makes it easier for me to pivot to something else, or take a quick break before starting up again.
maybe it’s not very practical or commonplace, but even the ritual of finding an album and setting it up to play helps me get into the headspace of “okay, i’m gonna be DOING STUFF now.”
Oh, what a good suggestion! I have a record player and a small selection of vinyl, maybe I'll put one on when I need to be working in the living room.
Normally I have the podcast on my phone and it travels from room to room with me, but sometimes when I'm cleaning I get distracted and wander away from the task I wanted to complete -- but if the sound is only in one spot, I'm more likely to stay in that one spot. The wandering isn't always bad but some of the "living room" tasks are going to be extremely boring (noioso, as the Italians say, which is a word I love, it just sounds so accurate) so that may help. Plus I should probably find a shelf to store my vinyl on so it's more accessible.
