@bleep0bleep you got it babe <3 <3 Couldn't help but give a little coda to my DM fic, Like a Dog with a Job
"You miss it, don't you?" Kabru asked, glancing over at Laios as he stared pensively out the window, one hand resting in a bowl of roasted nuts that he'd forgotten he was snacking on. Kabru didn't have to look to know that this window looked out over the cave system: the closest thing they now had to the Dungeon.
"Miss the dungeon?" Laios asked absently, turning back toward him. "Not really. Why would I, when life is so good here?" "You don't miss eating monsters?" Kabru challenged with amusement, leaning his chin into one hand. He avoided thinking too hard about harpy eggs or that strange lamb fruit, instead focused on the gentle way Laios' brow furrowed as he considered Kabru's question.
"Senshi comes by often enough that I still get them from time to time, which is enough when you consider the trade-offs." Laios' voice was sure and reasonable, and Kabru hung on every word without really noticing it.
"Which trade-offs?" He encouraged, just wanting to draw Laios further along the line of thought. To his surprise, though, Laios' face flushed handsomely, and he looked aside, avoiding Kabru's gaze. His voice was quiet, less sure, when he answered.
"I don't get to live alongside monsters anymore, no, but... I do get to live here with you."
Kabru sat upright, so surprised he couldn't do more than blink in response, his own face heating ridiculously.
"With me?" He squeaked, and then cleared his throat. "I mean, um, that's--that's great, Laios. I, uh, like living here with you too."
Laios smiled and slid the bowl of nuts across the table to him in offering.
"I'm glad you're happy, too, Kabru."
