'Bleifuss 2'
[PC] [GERMANY] [MAGAZINE, SPREAD] [1996]
"A round of free beer for the graphic artists behind Bleifuss 2: Beautiful textures, imaginative track design (my personal favorite: Egypt), and a truly zippy 3D engine make this game—at the very least—the best-looking title of the month. The subtle enhancements provided by the Hi-Color mode consume hardly any processing power; however, I avoid the SVGA mode like the plague. In that regard, it still can't hold a candle to my personal favorite, Need for Speed. No matter how much effort the graphic artists poured into it, in terms of gameplay, Bleifuss remains—well—Bleifuss: a fast-paced racer with controls that are sometimes a bit too slippery, and where the computer opponents simply fail to deliver the right kind of fun. At least network and split-screen modes are included. The "reward" tactic is also somewhat questionable: You have to win leagues first before you unlock more racetracks. For beginners, it would make more sense if all six courses were available right from the start—though I'm sure there's a cheat code for that somewhere. So, while it doesn't quite earn the top spot on the shelf of my racing game collection, coming in second place isn't bad at all." ~Boris Schneider, PC Player (DE) (November 1996) [BMT🤖] =====
