In the Enduring Ember AU, does the Cat King ever misses being a regular pet cat?

when i tell u the amount of sheer excitement that shot through me when i read this ask ;o;

he thinks he does, deep down. tbh, the cat kingdom seems a tad boring and worn out to the cat king these days, and he can't really put his finger on why, exactly. i think this has been a feeling plaguing him for a while but only became much more noticeable to him upon retiring and having nothing to do all day (which is not to say he really did anything before, but there was a Purpose there, at least)

he probably thinks about his past life quite often, and i imagine he views it through relatively rosy glasses, and assumes what he had then is what he's missing currently to make him feel so bored and restless all the time

but were he to think a little deeper on it, he'd probably realize his old life isn't really Cutting It For Him, either. he may even be aware of that on some level and simply refusing to ponder it bc that makes his apparent nostalgia even more pointless thinking emoji

i've joked before (...and also very seriously headcanoned) that the cat king tells natori everything and this is probably no exception, but i feel like it probably makes things awkward whenever it comes up, considering natori's own attachment to the kingdom

i did that with inigo i capped him on lunatic w/ brady and i made him a paladin after giving him possibly the best skill set in the world and he had over 700 battles and i want my inigo back
