Attended Emerald City Comic Con this weekend!
First time, as I am a native Portlandian (and Seattle is mildly terrifying on another level, especially the traffic 😭) and partial to Rose City Comic Con.
Exhausted, but incredibly satisfied and happy. Don’t ask how much money was spent 🤣
But as my first time actually being a part of the Critter community when all 8 of the founders attended and gave their time to so many fans - so so many Critters were so lovely to chat with and get to know while waiting in long lines and sharing our spaces with tips, tricks, and saving graces. Even after my Blightstaff sadly fell and broke (the Amethyst crystal is still intact! I’ll get the staff fixed 🙃), the amount of comments about it grew exponentially. I was taken aback by the kindness and support. I somehow got one individual asking for a pic 😭
To cosplay Caduceus was an act of admiration and love, and I didn’t expect the graciousness that comes from the Critter community ❤️ I was initially very anxious about cosplaying, and I knew my cosplay was very basic. I kind of thought no one would notice or care. I can write fanfic or an academic paper - I’m not crafty :( But the kindness this weekend was very soul-healing ❤️ And I did manage to run into another Caduceus and man, you should have seen us the moment we locked eyes. That meme of pointing and “YOU!” feels apt in describing our excitement 😍
All the cosplays I saw were amazing. So many Mollymauks! Always a good selection of Laudnas and Imogens; so many Fearnes and Percy + Vex; Caleb, Fjord - oh my Jester! Yasha was on point! The two Esseks I saw should win literal awards for their effing perfection!!! I didn’t see every CR character, but every campaign (including C4) was well represented. Murray, Tyranny, Wick, Bolaire - I saw an Occtis, a couple definitely doing Hal + Thiasha. And the Julien’s 🙌
And my hand to God, my Blightstaff and cosplay did get a compliment from the creator himself, Mr. Jaffe. I somehow managed to be the second in line for both Taliesin and Matt (and first was the same wonderful individual who was Molly Saturday and Marion Sunday with her lovely children as Jester and Artagan) and while the conversation was short, the memories will last forever. Matt was very kind, as was Taliesin.
Anyway - it was so lovely and although my grad studies are extremely busy and mounting up on my to-do list - this was a good distraction and break from constantly studying.
Although my cosplaying adventures are unlikely to expand - I’m still so blown away by the Critter community ❤️ Much love 💕
