Theory/headcannon: Blitzo is autistic
First off I’m making this on my phone, so sorry if the layout is messy. But anyway:
While first reviewing all of Blitzo’s posts on Instagram, I noticed a few stark highlights of Blitzo that expanded his character in a way we didn’t get to see in the pilot or the newest episode. So the following is a list of things that I believe could be symbolism for overall autistic behavior to support my theory, some of them obvious and some not. Let’s get started:
-Very upfront special interests in horses. Has a horse hoodie, constantly mentions his horse, has several horse objects, have a deep love for the movie Spirit, and loves to draw them.
-In a few of his posts he is seen hiding under desks and staying home as to keep away from people “talking to him”. This can be seen as overstimulation or autistic burnout, in which he is experiencing burnout from masking his autism and needs to recharge on his own for a bit. Hiding under desks and in overall small and dark spaces is also a common trait shared upon autistics, as autistic people prefer to be in tiny and dark spaces.
-His numerous spelling mistakes is something that I also personally deal with when I’m typing too fast on a keyboard, and can be seen as a sign of neurodiversity as he has trouble spelling and typing in general. This is important to note as it’s something that’s bought up a good amount of times across his account.
-Samefooding with iced coffee. Blitzo seems to have a deep love for all things iced coffee and seems to get it quite often. This can be seen as samefooding, a phenomena in which case a autistic person will stim by repeatedly eating or drinking the exact same thing because they enjoy it.
-Seems to get upset easily. Blitzo is seen shouting quite a few times, and can tend to get easily upset and lashes out at Moxxie the most. This can be seen as a general quick temper, but it is also a trait that can be seen amungst autistic people as it shows they have a hard time adjusting to change or facing upsetting situations.
-Gender nonconformity. Blitzo is seen a good few times wearing more feminine things such as pink sweaters, fishnets, and makeup. It is a known fact that people with autism are much more likely to dress or do things that go against their assigned gender norms, as they feel that social norms in general are out of their reach anyway. It is also common for autistic people to identify as something other then their assigned gender, so it can be theoretically said that Blitzo’s gender nonconforming could be a clue. This is not to say however that all people who dress in a gender nonconforming way is autistic, it’s just something worth noting.
-Social obliviousness. This seems to be more apparent in the pilot, but Blitzo appears often overall socially oblivious to things like Moxxie and Millie’s relationship and behaving around others. He is seen as obviously not acting like a professional boss, instead frequently making inappropriate comments and acting immaturely to his coworkers.
-Derp eyes. This is something I’ve noticed he has a tendency to do and I feel like it’s possible to see it as some sort of stim? None of the other characters do it so I thought it would be worth noting.
All of this to say, I would like to recap this by saying that I know I may get backlash for this post because Blitzo said the r word in the pilot so it could be seen as insulting to headcannon him as autistic anyway. What I like to personally think is that Blitzo called Moxxie the r word and perhaps calls other things the r word because it’s a internal insult to himself that he wish he could self depreciate himself for. Maybe he also uses the r word as a self defense so he himself can’t get hurt by it, and since he’s in hell its also very possible that him being in hell in general has desensitized him to the word. Overall though I do wish that he shows more possible stimming behaviors in Instagram or animated wise as that would help strengthen this theory SO much more.
