NEWS IN THE NETHERLANDS ABOUT PORTLAND

Hi, I do not know how this is being rapported in the USA, so just to be sure I’ve typed out a transscrypt/translation of a post that appeared in July 22nd 2020 on @/nosstories on instagram. NOS is the official government news outlet here in the Netherlands.

Unrest in America about the heavily armed ordertroops

You’ve might seen these images on social media of heavily armed men. On the videos it can be seen how in the American city Portland they are arresting Black Lives Matter- protesters and taking them away in cars. At first it wasn’t clear, who these men were, but it turns ot there were send by president Trump. According to him they were very necessary, he even wants to send them to more cities.

“Portland was totally out of control. The democrats, the liberal democrats, running the place had no idea what they were doing.”

Remarkebly: the governer of Portland knew of nothing. He is thus angry about the action.

“The videos, the pictures, the experiences that we’re all witnessing here in Portland should be shocking to all Americans. The words and actions from president Trump and the department of homeland security  have shown that this is an attack on our democracy”

Hey guys, so I know I don’t typically post anything on this blog that isn’t SPN related but I wanted to use this small, tiny, platform I have on here to hopefully share some useful information about what’s going on at the moment.

What happened?

What is credited as the main catalyst for all the protests breaking out globally is the murder of George Floyd. 

He was a Black man and was murdered in broad daylight after a grocery clerk called the police thinking he was writing a bad check. For nearly nine minutes, George laid on the street while officers Derek Chauvin and Tou Thao held their knee on his neck as he was struggling to breathe. He lost consciousness and yet they continued to strangle him. Floyd said the words “I can’t breathe,” several times, but the officer refused to remove his knee from Floyd’s neck.

The choke hold is illegal in Minneapolis due to it’s common knowledge of being lethal and can kill an individual minutes. This is well known in the police force and is written in their guidlines. These police officers have also previousl targeted individuals who are of ethnic minority which calls into question their true motives. What happened was murder.

How can you help?

- Sign as many petitions as possible and share these links online to spread awareness! I’ll link a seperate post dedicated to petitons you can sign in the US and internationally for everyone here!

- Donate to charities and NGO’s which are supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.

- Donate to groups which are paying for the bail bonds for those arrested during protests in American (which is constitutionally legal) as many of these people were peacefully protesting and have no grounds to be arrested. 

If you are not in a position where you can donate money or attend protests, you can:

- You can watch this video and 100% of all advertisment revenue goes towards causes supporting the Black Lives Matter movement. 

- Show support by putting posters in your windows, particularly windows which are facing streets and walkways. 

What’s next?

We ensure that we keep fighting for this cause, people’s lives last longer than a 24 hour story shout out and a Instagram challenge of posting a black box. Lives matter more than a hashtag. 

Keep yourself educated and up to date on the news and social movements around you!

If you are in a safe position to (and only if you are safe to do so x) please call out any toxic or racist behaviour of those around you! Ask people why they believe it’s okay to dehumanise people like that. Attend any future talks, events or protests surrounding the topic. Fellow white peers, prove yourself as an ally to the black community but do not try and yell over their voices. We can never understand fully but we can stand with them.

I don't know why social media timelines are going back to 'normal' . Racism, police brutality and the systematic oppression of black people, etc-- are still going on and haven't stopped. It isn't over. Continue to educate yourselves and use your platforms to spread awareness and information!

Please keep in mind that depending on who the commander of the National Guard unit is it how seriously they take their oath to protect the Constitution there more likelihood of them beating the crap out of cops if they are stepping out offline compared to peaceful protesters. Whether you want to believe it or not according to statistics the number one hirer of the black community of black women is the US Military the US Army in particular 49% of women in the Army are black.

there's a larger representation of blacks in the military than civilians.

If they mobilize the military they're going to realize really quickly that it's not going to have the effect they want.
