In 1966, Leyland Motors took over Rover and promptly set about expanding its model range. The P6 BS, a mid-engined sports car, used Rover’s newly acquired ex-Buick alloy V8 engine (BS stood for Buick Sport). The photographs show an engineering mule, not the final styling (the P9 styling model also shown). However, when Leyland merged with BMC, the BLMC board cancelled the P6’s development due to concerns it would compete with Rover’s new stablemate, the Jaguar E-Type.
