NOTE: these terms were made specifically with autistic individuals in mind, but if you know anything about me, then you know that i’m not one for gatekeeping. if this term resonates with you, go right ahead and use it <3

i’ve always felt a bit disconnected from other women, and i think it’s partially due to my autism. growing up, i was comforted by “ugly” animals like blobfish and axolotls, and i know many other neurodivergent folks felt the same way. i hope these terms bring comfort to those who need it <3

ANGLERFISH: a disabled genderqueer person who presents themself in an androgynous or neutral manner/fashion, yet feels disconnected from typical androgyny or neutrality due to being disabled

NOTE: this was originally an attempt at a gender neutral version of my blobfish and axolotl terms, but eventually it turned into something more specific. if anyone wants to make a truly gender neutral equivalent, feel free to do so! just be sure to tag me in it so i can see it :)

NOTE 2: i am aware that the anglerfish used is a female one. this has nothing to do with the term, i just feel that the bulb is what anglerfish are known for, even if some don’t have it. it was used solely for visual purposes (also all the free to use anglerfish silhouettes i could find had it lol)

fun fact!! blobfish only look like that because of sustaining severe tissue damage when being hauled up from the deep sea. they're actually incredibly beautiful in their natural habitat!

hey ! I'm such a big fan of your labels, they truly make me feel at home.

wanted to ask, is there an in-between or neutral versions of your blobfish and axolotl terms? if not would you be open to making some/others making their own additions to it?

i’m glad my labels resonate! right now, there’s not but i would definitely be open to making one! i just need to think of another “ugly” sea animal lol

maybe the genus name could work? pyschrolutes or pyschoro or something similar?

maybe, yeah. unfortunately though, blobfish seems to be the more recognized name. i think if i were to call it that, nobody would know which animal i was referencing :/ i might make that the alternative term!

hey just a little psa but "blobfish" are actually the corpses of fish whove been physically crushed by the change in pressure they are not an actual fish they are the corpses of fish whove been brutally killed im sure you didnt know or mean any harm but thought i should let you know youre term is great i would suggest maybe using a different term though

i actually am very much aware! that’s actually why the silhouette in the corner isn’t of the corpse, rather what the fish looks like in its natural habitat (the deep sea with lots of pressure)!

are you referring to the actual term “blobfish” itself? because if so, i totally get it and would be completely down with changing it! only problem is that idk if there are any short alternatives to it’s scientific name :/

if anyone has any ideas, i’d be happy to use those instead!
